Just rewatched that fight, and for most who said Roy Jones was shot, I saw different. I honestly thought he won rounds 1-5, depending on what you score. The pitty pay shots, or the cleaner efective shots. Round 6 was a toss up, and even some of those 1st 5 couldve been dead even rounds. Dont wanna seem biased. They couldve been tied. HBO score after 6 was a tie fight, even the Sentanta announcers had a tie after 6. You can check it out on youtube for yourself. Now as I have said be4, be4 that cut happened. Roy was slowing the pace of the fight down, and starting to land more. As soon as the cut happened Calzaghe smelled blood and went in for the kill. So for the final score to be as lopsided as it was, I think the perception made it seem worst that it actually was. Im not lookin to get into any kind of Calzaghe vs the rest of the boxing world war. Every1 can post, there opinions, and be civil. All I say is rewatch it again, the Sentanta stream is on youtube now in HD. And if you guys dont believe that Roy was very much in that fight be4 that cut, then that would b total bias. Calzaghe did win it. But RJ was right there be4 that cut happened http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCDl1QMSYj8&feature=related is part 1, click the HD link n go through the rest of the parts. Let me know what you think
it begins now 3-4 months from now people will say Calzaghe didnt decisively beat RJJ and a rematch is in order
I thought it was a great fight to watch. So maybe neither fighter was in their prime but I loved the ducking and weaving both showed at the end of round three.
ok, obviously people didnt read wat I wrote. I swear people on ESB dont know what it is t o have a civil debate. Dont flood my thread wit foolishness. Every1 is entitled to their opinion, and ifyou rewatched the fight objectively, Roy was very much in that fight be4 the cut. And if you wanna say thats my opinion. Sentanta announcers said the same thing. And harold lederman had it a draw after 6. the 7th is when it happened. So no1 is discrediting his win, but the perception made it seem worst than wat it was
I agree entirely, I think the cut won the fight for Calzaghe, because he wasn't outboxing Jones at all until late in the fight.
jones was not shot as people think in the fight he still beat most people you have to give him credit his speed was not as slow as joes in fact it was better then all the people joe has faught, i give joe credit for fighting a style not suited to him. again joe was too much and his ring smarts were always going to be to much for jones
which is wat I saw, again Calzaghe clearly won the fight. But be4 that cut happened to me RJ was very much in that fight and was even slowing the pace of the fight down. Sentanta commentators said the same thing. And thats the Brits saying that not even HBO. After that cut it went all down hill. Again not discrediting the win. Just Check it out
Agreed. Jones didn't look as bad as some people in here say. Still, he may be shot or not but at least he has balls left and did not quit in a stool against a much smaller fighter, (cough cough Chicken De la Hoya).
I agree entirely, it was an interesting fight up until the 7th. Calzaghe was slightly getting the better of it due to the higher workrate, especially on the ropes, but by far the better quality of shots was coming from Jones, especially in the first 4 rounds which I thought Jones won hands down. Once that cut happened, and Calzaghe started stepping up his workrate to unbelievable levels, Jones didn't have the energy to resist. He was too concerned with the cut and too tired to avoid the beatdown that took place after. It's a real shame that Jones lost because Calzaghe doesn't have 10% of the natural talent that Jones had in his prime.
I re-watched the fight on Setanta the other night and still drew the same conclusion. Jones is shot and Calzaghe is still a dick with all the showboating.
Well im glad some1 else saw the same thing, Calzaghe fans wont ever admit that. You say somethin and its hating. No1 is hatin on him, he got the W clearly, no dispute. But RJ was very much in that fight. And if you dont believe me watch it over for yourself. And if you wanna hear the Sentanta commentators say that cut was big for Calzaghe b/c Rj was slowin down the pace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa8t6OgQ5N0&feature=related 0:37 listen to wat the SENTANTA ANNOuncers say so if he wasnt in that fight, there is no need 2 utter that remark
well prime 4 prime its a diff fight. RJ may b shot by his own standards yes. But for his age, and fighting who he is fighting. I think he was doing very well until the cut happened. Again not tryin 2 get into a Calzaghe hate war, or a Jones hate war. all i ask is people rewatch it, and score it unbiased be4 the cut. Roy was very much into it. HBO had it a draw, Sentanta had calzaghe up by 1 point. THe announcers had it a tie
