your wrong there vera was starting to flag. lee should have been given the chance to come back, he was having a bad spell, these things happen.it was a pro boxing contest for **** sake.
Andy Lee has admitted after that the fight, that he went in not fully concentrating on his opponent, the defeat could be the best thing that ever happens to his career,he fought the type of fight Vera wanted to fight and hiopefully he will learn from this. The fact that he is fighting fights in ireland as well as America, means that he qualifies to fight for a euorpean title which i like to see him aim towards firstly for next year and then look at the world scene.
I'll take it from your handle you have a twinge of Irish bias here? Is "flag" another word for "tee-off"? atsch This fight was over. Lee wasn't coming back.
flag means to tire. lee was going through a bad patch but should have been given a chance to turn it round. you should think about the amount of fights in history that would have had different outcomes if the ref had jumped in earlier instead of letting the fight reach its natural conclusion
I knew what 'flag' meant from your usage. I saw Vera getting stronger because Lee was done and he knew it. Vera knew he could just walk in and have his way at that point. Vera was landing EVERY PUNCH HE THREW at that point. He had NO fear that Lee could threaten him. The clip of the end is posted earlier in the thread. Your 'Irish' will never let you see that though and I understand.
The stoppage was slightly premature but was Lee was gased.Vera was also ****ed from throwing so many punches.Either way Lee will learn not to underestimate any opponent in the future also not to train for a 5 round fight
If the ref had stopped it at the point where Lee looked very wobbly on his feet, no one would have complained. He realised he was in trouble and began to fire back, but if you watch the EPSN replay of Vera's last punch you'll see that Lee was hurt by it. The ref shouldn't have jumped in just as Lee landed a punch, coz thats never gonna go down well. Lee was cut, tired and hurt and wouldnt have survived until round 8. There would be no debate if it was stopped after Vera landed another punch, the stoppage looks very bad, but it was inevitable. No way was Andy gonna win that fight.
your maybe right there about my irishness, but i have noticed a lot of americans having a similar view to me in relation to the stoppage, so maybe its not so cut and dry as you think
he'll be back... and i think he has a very prosperous future, i think eventually we'll all forget about his loss to vera. that or we'll remember it as an excellent learning curv
Don't over react to the stoppage. Consider this; By the time Alexis Arguello reached the level Andy is at, he had 3 ****ing losses! That did not stop him from becoming the very definition of All time Great. We do not know what the future holds for Andy. All we know is that in spite of his potential, on the eveing of March 21, 2008 he did not know how to handle a tough and hungry brawler, and that's pretty much all we know.
The difference is YOU think Lee could have had a chance to come back. THEY just wanted to see him punished. Ref has a tough job though.
A rematch is pointless. I referenced Arguello's early losses in a previous post. Did Alexis need to rematch Jorge "who the **** ever heard of this guy" Reyes? I think not. Lee's best option is to learn from it, and move on.
