Joe Louis has a good enough skillset, power, toughness etc etc to deal with most of todays HW's.

However, Lennox Lewis (whilst one placec behind Louis on my ATG HW list) would outjab, outbox, and outpunch Joe Louis. I say Lennox W Decision and not K.O out of respect for Joe Louis.

Joe Louis had a perfect straight right hand with stunning power. Lennox Lewis was ko'd twice with single right hands from guys not fit to clean Louis' spit bucket. Joe Louis would knock Lennox Lewis out, clean, and do the same in a rematch.

If slow small and average hitting Schmeling could KO Louis, imagine what Lewis would do?
If bums like Galento and Light-Heavyweights like Walcott knocked Louis down what would Lewis do?

    Lewis would obliterate Louis.

and it wasn't his second to last fight, it was his LAST fight, unless he unretires.

Louis is the better fighter technically, and he had a better career, but on a h2h basis I'd say Lewis by KO.

Either man could KO the other here but prime for prime on their best nights I think Joe Louis better accuracy & speed finds the chin of Lennox before 9 rds.

    LOUIS BY KO

put lennox lewis in the 1940`s heavyweight scene and you get carnage and slaughter.

lennox lewis in that era is the same as putting in bob foster with flyweights and bantamweights and thinking the bantam had a chance because bob is a bit vunerable to power.

I think here on the general forum, Lewis is overrated & Louis is underrated.

I dont recall Lennox recieving the praise he gets now until after he retired.

The talk about Louis's chin gets blown out of proportion.

He fought the MOST top ten fighters, outside of Ali who is barely ahead of him. When you fight over 30 top ten ranked opponents, you're going to hit the canvas here and there.

It's not like he was a Floyd Patterson who went down in nearly every fight. It took a good, well timed punch to drop him and even when you did drop him, finishing Louis was a whole other matter. Only Schmeling after 12 rounds of abuse and Marciano when well past his best could do that.
