Did anybody here think that Baldomir would beat Floyd?

I was going through some of my boxing tapes the other day. At the time, I really thought that the fight would be competitive and that Mayweather would have to work for the victory. Something like 116-112 Floyd with a couple difficult rounds sounded right to me. Boy was I wrong. I think I got caught up in the Cinderella year that Baldomir was having and didn't look at the fight objectively.

    What did everybody else think?

I also thought Baldomir would do more more than he did but he was way to slow.

Doubt it,Mayweather was a favorite but not by extremely big difference.

The answer to this is Hell No. But I was hoping Floyd would fight him with an offensive style instead of the popshot one he used. The fight was lame and one of his worst but people just don't realize that Floyd doesn't move as fast at 147, so he couldn't afford to be as active, and he never really was an overactive fighter to begin with, except for early in his career, and against Corrales, Gatti and a few others.

    To win outright:
    Mayweather -700
    Baldomir +450

    A mismatch

I thought Baldo had a shot...but that was only because of the lies Floyd told before the fight.

He was avoiding Margo at the time, and promised that this fight vs. Baldo would be the war we want to see him in.

He promised that he would get the KO, which he didn't even try for.

I wouldn't have thought Baldo had a chance if Lil Floyd would have been honest, and said he intends to ride the bicycle all night.

Nobody knocks Floyd off of the bicycle.

So was Hopkins/Pavlik before the fight, Pacquiao/DLH, Darchinyan/Mijares and other good examples this year. The bookies aren't always right but with Mayweather/Baldomir they were spot on.

I remember Orishaman had a thread with a very long post about how Baldomir will slice Mayweather to pieces then shortly after the fight he tried desperately to deny it.

In the new Ring Mag that just came out columnist Jim Bagg who writes "Hitting on the Break" monthly had a piece admitting that back then he was telling everybody to put thier money on Baldo.

Like was said above, Baldo was rollin' that year and at the time prolly' didn't seem so ridiculous.

A lot of people were predicting that Baldomir would make it difficult based on his strength. There was a lot of wishful thinking about Floyd getting pushed around, but in the end Mayweather performed. I doubt people are going to be coming out in numbers admitting if they picked Baldomir, but there were quite a few.

Yea, I thought it was going to be a lot closer.

I don't think he could potshot his way to a "W" like he did against the featherduster if he fought AM, PW, or Manny.

They seem to be very difficult style matchups.
