I don't speak Spanish so I could be wrong but it seems like he is doing a terrible job at translating. Sometimes the trainer says 3-4 sentences and he translates in 2 words "use the jab" or something, other times the trainer says 2 words and he translates in 2 sentences. I was recently watching Casamayor-Marquez fight and laughed when he translated Marquez's corner "We will let him win opening rounds and then take over" WTF? or "Throw more combinations" when he was throwing lots of them. Cant they get some good translator in there? Any Spanish speaking posters here can confirm that this guy is doing terrible job?
That Ricardo Jimenez dude that has been working generally for mexican fighters(Morales,Castillo etc) and Cotto is pretty good.
No he isn't. I'm a translator and can attest to the fact that he leaves a lot out.... he gets hung up trying to convey one point and leaves out most of the content....especially during the interviews afterwards. I did see one very good translator...for reference he wears glasses...never seen him again....he translated for verbatim in real time.
I remember a comical moment in the Casamayor-Katsidis fight. He had his personal translator. HBO had their own Spanish translator that they insisted on using. Well...Casamayor could not understand what the **** he was saying as he has a Cuban dialect.
It was a lie,Casa's translator is part of his team for years and was putting words in his mouth.He didn't wanna use HBO's trasnlator cur the guy was not on his team unlike the other guy.It was the same spanish.
The funniest **** was watching Duran's post fight interviews in his comeback. He knows a HELL of a lot more English than he lets on, but he plays dumb.:yep
HBO's new Spanish translator sucks. I forget the old one's name but he was much better. The same guy who did the Morales fight when Morales' corner says "Put some water on his balls".
For anyone learning Spanish as a second language like myself, it's tough to make out the words out as Spanish is generally spoken at a fast rate, so it's no wonder the translators have to guesstimate things.
