Worst Idea for a Superfight in '09? HOPKINS vs MAYWEATHER at 160lbs

From The Ring, Jan '09, by Jeff Ryan writing about Bernard Hopkins:

"Give me a telephone, a Rolodex, and more money than a suite full of AIG executives could blow on a weekend golf outing, and I'll zero in on two targets: Chad Dawson and... Floyd Mayweather.

In Dawson, Hopkins would be facing an unbeaten 26-year-old boxer-puncher who is on the rise and, unlike Pavlik, is as big and strong as B-Hop. As for Mayweather, well, what sales pitch needs to be offered here? Don't tell me Hopkins can't make 160lbs anymore. For the right price/challenge/perceived insult to his pride, he'll make 120lbs. Mayweather would come into the ring at 157 (just three pounds more than he weighed against De La Hoya) and still be the faster fighter.

The pre-fight trash talk would be so rich, it would be reprinted in textbooks and taught in boxing gyms and on playground basketball courts around the world. And the prize would be the winner's knowledge that he'd beaten the best overall talent that he'd ever faced."

Now, this article was written before Manny Pacquiao confounded logic by jumping 3 weight divisions in a year and beating lmw Oscar De La Hoya.

To me, the very idea of Hopkins-Mayweather is absurd, but does anyone think it might be under serious consideration in the wake of Pacquiao-Oscar??

Mayweather Vs Hopkins ?? Come on now.. Can we be just a little bit serious for a second.. There's no way they will ever fight ! Mayweather wouldn't step into a ring with Hopkins even if he had 50 behind him :rofl

Its hard to tell after Pac vs. Oscar.... Anything is possible, almost a year ago I was laughing at the idea of the fight even happening, never imagined the winner would be Pac.

Hopkins could never make 160. If he could, then you would get a Pac vs Oscar all over again. Hopkins is much smarter then that, but then again, money talks.
