What was Marvin's Most Marvelous Performance against a natural Middleweight?

Marvin Hagler is rightly regarded as one of the very best middleweights in history (personally I have him 4th after Greb, Monzon and Robinson).

His stunning blitz of Thomas Hearns will never be forgotten, as it was perhaps the most intense and spectacular clash between two greats that we have ever seen.

However, Hearns was a natural welterweight and Hagler did not utilize the wide array of his skills to defeat Tommy, he simply went for the kill from the first bell.

In which of Marvelous Marvin's middleweight fights did you think he was most impressive all-round as a fighter?

I haven't seen all of his mw fights, but I think he was excellent against Tony Sibson.

    Thoughts/opinions??

My opinion is that Hearns was a natural Middleweight...but that's arguable.

    Alan Minter.

    Why would it???

I am asking a question of people who have seen all of Marvin's fights at middleweight in case there are any hidden gems I haven't seen as I want to make a compilation dvd of the great mw's.

I have seen all of B-Hop's mw defences so I don't need any tips on him.

Cheers McGrain. Your input would be appreciated on my "IN THE POCKET" thread just now.

PS: Even if we took Hearns to be a natural mw, do you think it was the most impressive all-round performance of Marvin's career? Sure it was the biggest and most exciting, but I'm not sure if he really showed the best of the skills he possessed.

It depends what you like I guess...I think his domination of Antuofermo was excellent aswell and Sibson was certainly a great pick.

The abrupt end the Scypion fight showed how devastating Marvin could be, as Hamsho II did seeing as though Mustafa had proven how tough he was in their previous encounter and every fight he was in up until then.

Ive probably watched my copy of Hagler-Briscoe more then any other though...Hagler was really starting to hit his prime and it was an excellent display of boxing on the indside, outside, on the front foot and on the backfoot..He just showed why he will be remembered as one of the most well rounded, evenly proportioned and versatile fighters ever.

Yeah. He bulled a harder hitting fighter with superior reach. You close the gap any way you can!

Fair enough. Hearns was the best fighter Marvin ever beat (mw Hearns being better than mw Duran).

I believe Hearns was a natural 154 lb fighter (2nd best ever after McCallum, IMO), but your point is well taken, Dinamita.

Mugabi was a 154 lber too, though like Hearns, he bulked up with incredible ease, and was effective long after his fight with Marvin.

I'll go with Minter as well.

Not really, Mugabi crashed and burned as hard as any fighter ever has.

I think it showed what Marvin was all about, don't you think? I think it showed some of the more underrated aspects of his game too, there are certainly a few misconceptions surrounding Hagler. He boxed really well and showed what he learnt from the first fight that he let slip away.

Minter is a solid pick too. Minter has been lost in time, excellent fighter in his own right.

Yes really. He bulked up with ease, as I said. He looked incredibly fit at 168 and even 175.

Further, simply because he was blown out by elite fighters in Mclellan and Norris, doesn't mean he was not "effective". :good

He did put together a solid winning streak, and ended up capturing a world title at 154 lbs (his natural weight, IMO).

I saw him live at 175 and he looked terrible...his physique was still quite impressive but he wasnt half the fighter he was..and even that wasnt as good as a lot make out.
