Doubt anyone cares. But it's a good way to call something a "world title fight" and to have a 12 rounder.

Tonights fight is for THE WORLD LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP.

Bothers me a bit that Hatton is carrying around the IBO at press conferences and not the Ring belt though...

I may be wrong, but I believe that the title is necessary to make it a 12 round fight.

Nobody cares about the ring belt. It is probably as worthless as the IBO to be honest, you'll never hear a non-hardcore fan even mention the thing.

its no secret that fighters want the W.B.C belt.

that green belt historically is the symbol of the "true" champion.

the ibf 2nd and wba 3rd.

these are the only belts that count, the other ones are junk!

ALL belts should be ignored below the heavyweight division, and even then only the lineal championship matters. Linearity is too hard to work out when boxers are moving around in weight divisions. As for ABC organisations, they've always been pointless wastes of time.

The days of sanctioning bodies are numbered, I feel, now that we can get a fight like Pac-Morales for the WBC International Title (or whatever it was). If the boxers are the best in the division, we'll know... IF they fight each other.

So, Castillo-Hatton being for the IBO title isn't important. What's important is that here are two world class boxers fighting each other. :happy

Whether boxing fans like it or not the IBO belt is becomming a major player .
On the negative side another belt recognized as a big one is very bad for the sport . On the plus side the IBO seem to conduct themselves well and have independent rankings .

IBO Heavyweight champion , Current: Waldamir Klitschko
Past: Lennox Lewis , Hasim Rahman , Pinklon Thomas

    Cruiserweight , Current: Tomasz Adamek
Past: Carl Thompson , Sebastien Rothman , Thomas Hearns , James Toney , Adolpho Washington , Uriah Grant , Robert Daniels

    Light-Heavyweight , Current: Antonio Tarver
Past: Bernard Hopkins , Glen Johnson , Roy Jones jnr

    Super Middleweight , Current: vacant
Past: Jeff Lacy , Robin Reid , Mads Larsen , Vinny Pazienza , Dana Rosenblatt

    Middleweight , Current: Raymond Joval
    Past: Glenwood Brown

    Light-Middleweight ,Current: Atilla Kovacs
Past: Sergio Gabriel Martinez , Lester Ellis

    Welterweight , Current: Isaac Hlatshwayo
Past: Floyd Mayweather , Dingaan Thobela , Roger Mayweather

    Light-Welterweight , Current: Ricky Hatton
Past: Stevie Johnston , Roger Mayweather

Lightweight: , Current: vacant(Stevie Johnston v Rolando Reyes)
    Past:Isaac Hlatshwayo , Leavander Johnston

Super featherweight , Current: Cassius Baloyi
Past: Gairy St.Clair , Jimmy Bredahl , Troy Dorsey

    Featherweight , Current: Thomas Mashaba
Past: Marco Antonio Barrera , Naseem Hamed , Michael Brodie , Vuyani Bungu , Junior Jones , Derrick Gainer

Super Bantamweight , Current: Taklani Ndlovu(challenges for IBF title next)
    Past: Paulie Ayala

    Bantamweight , Current: Silence Mabuza
Past: Rafael Marquez , Johnny Bredahl

    Super-Flyweight , Current: Vacant
Past: Damaen Kelly , Mauricio Pastrana

    Flyweight , Current: Vic Darchinyan
Past: Mzukisi Sikali , Scotty Olson , Masibulele Makepula , Damaen Kelly

    Light-Fyweight: Vacant
    Past: Monelisi Mhikiza Myekeni

    Minimumweight , Current: Nkosinathi Joyi
    Past: Noel Tunacao

There's a lot of big names on the list above and it seems there's more and more big name fighters fighting for the IBO belt .

I think a 5th belt could be a good thing , because a 5th could lead to a 6th and a 6th to a 7th and maybe by them it will become such a farce that someone with the power to sort things out will do so and either get mass unification or get recognition for one belt(eg Ring , although I'm not saying that's the answer) and one belt only .

    exactly

it all depends on who hold it....hatton could relaese all the belts,
someone could start an organisationa actually called ABC or XYZ and give it to him, and that would be the most important belt at 140
