Margarito won the fight, there's absolutely no doubt about that. He took everything Cotto could throw and kept right on coming - cutting off the ring and stalking Cotto down until finally busting up an exhausted foe to the point where he was mentally unable to continue. For the first half of the fight, however, Cotto looked magnificent. His hands were fast, his punches were hurtful. His footwork was excellent, and his strategy appeared flawless. In my eyes, it seemed as though he was going to coast to a relatively easy victory over an apparently limited and outclassed Margarito by means of a masterpiece of boxing.

Credit where credit is due; the inhumanly tough Margarito seemed unfazed by shots that would have laid a rhinoscerous low. Some of the between-round replays of the blows thudding into the Tijuana Tornado's head made me wince. I thought the writing was on the wall and thought there may even be an early stoppage. I was right. There was - but certainly not the one I had expected after the first several rounds.

I am not bashing Margos skills at all but he took less money to fight Mosley than to fight Williams in a rematch

I agree Margarito has a iron chin but he has terrible boxing skills. Cotto simply ran out of gas just like he did aginst Mosley, hoiwever this time he was in with a younger fresher fighter who kept bringing it when he was down. Mayweather would potshot and move all night to a boring UD. Styles make fights and Cotto would actually be a greater challenge for Mayweather than Margarito.

I disagree, It showed how much Cotto never really had a chance to win.
The outcome was only a matter of time, from the moment his nose started to bleed it was over.

Well, Margarito won clearly. That's not up for discussion. But it's also a fact at least 5 of the first 7 rounds belonged to Cotto. He based his fight on movement and did it very well until he started to spend too much time in the ropes. I am not sure if it was lack of training or the fact he was swallowing too much blood from that uppercut in the early rounds. You can see the way Cotto was breathing by the end of the third round something wasn't well. That's not normal for him. He couldn't even talk.
Also I think Cotto got too comfortable after beating Gomez. While Margarito knew his career was in danger after his lost to Williams. Too many times Cotto hit him well and instead of hitting again decided to show off and look cool. That was a big mistake. Also he could watch a Floyd or Calderon tape to learn to grab once in a while. Don't wait until he gets hit to grab. Hit and grab him. Floyd does all the time. Not reason to get hit.

Clottey was dominant until he hurt himself, he wimped out a bit then but if they fight again I fancy Margarito to lose. He probably knows that himself as well.

You're writing this post as if you're saying something new. Most of what you're saying is regurgitated bull**** Everyone knows that Margarito has a limited skillset; it's his unrelenting fighting style and ability to absorb punishment that they admire him for. Margarito has already fought Williams and pushed him to the limit, despite losing. You know you're regarded as a great fighter when your aura isn't diminished in a loss. Paul Williams had stamina but he was exhausted after his fight with Margarito. People don't give a **** when fighters like him lose to skilled boxers because he embodies the very spirit of fighting. Lamotta lost a lot to Sugar Ray Robinson but he's still remembered as a great fighter because he was a warrior. Margarito's fans are like Gatti's fans, they wouldn't leave the guy even if he got his ass whooped simply because of how he fights. He's no hype job. You're part of the generation of boxing "fans" that consider losses to be a huge deal. Sitting back and waiting for him to lose to someone that will outbox him is a only what a lameass would do.

lol if margarito is overrated, think about how overrated cotto is!

people trying to make him out to be a top 5 p4p guy with his "barely made it" passed a non roided ancient Mosley that almost lost to Mayorga lol.

cotto is a good boxer puncher but his defense is suspect and his chin even more so.

margarito islimited but his stellar chin and stamina will never allow cotto to beat him.
