Well heres a question, do you think Pat Cowdell was better than Pac at 126? If teh answer is no then you dont know who would win between these two if they met. No one knows!! Thats the whole point and Pac has earned the benefit of a doubt that hes better than Cowdel or Ruben Olivares..or even a green Azumah.. BTW my point was more toward Red Lopez..he was a defensless slugger to put it mildly. Hed outslug you but of course a guy like Sanchez will eat him up
Honestly...the 81 version of Cowdell could have really upset Pac..Havent seen enough of him to say he would beat him but he potentially gives Manny the fits...he would give a lot of people the fits. Pac has become a lot better defensively now aswell...he could be tagged back then easier then now. Most importantly he could be countered which was a strongpoint of Sanchez's...probably better then JMM at it. Im not one of the ones saying he hasnt earned the benifit of the doubt in these matchups..But I have not seen a sound arguement for the 126 version of Pac being able to take out Sanchez.
The point is to pick an Old timer guy Pac will lose too in a fantasy matchup.. this is a trend... You dont know, SS have never faced a fighter with a combination of power and speed that Pac possesses at 126. JMM was a timid counterpuncher who WAITS. Sanchez would bang with PAc.. its hypothetical at best. Heres a funny scenario, Pac for some stroke of luck gets highly regarded as an ATG, lets say top 10...you would see a number of guys who would suggest that Pat Cowdell (Top 500 boxer of all time) could have beaten Pac at 126. It would sound absurd. But this is ESB afterall..Check out E*PN..the world leader in sports and read what they say
Chimba I usually agree with you, but I think you're off the ball here. Sanchez fought to the level of his opponent, his lackluster display against Cowdell is hardly surprising. You talk about Sanchez never facing anyone like Pac, but who did Pac ever face even close to Sanchez? He was arguably a better counter puncher than Marquez, a better brawler than Morales, he was just a complete fighter. Marquez didn't just "timidly" counterpunch his way to close decisions with Pac, he fought back and fought back HARD. Sorry but Sanchez is one of the best fighters I've ever seen, I think he takes this fight in a war.
All Im saying is that we dont know.. You watch Sanchez vs. Gomez..Sanchez vs. Lopez there was no counterpunching there..Those were slugfests.. He is not a better counterpuncher than JMM, he doesnt have Morales jab..hes not invincible...better overall fighter than those two at 126 yes but not by much.. I can see people favoring Sanchez over Pac at 126 but smash, KO, one sided destruction...thats just pure fantasy I myself will favor him only slightly at 126 and only at 126 due to his more advanced skill at that weight..as with Pac, who knows what his prime is
^ Of course we don't know. And it wouldn't be one-sided at all, it would be very competitive. But I think Sanchez was just too skilled and diverse, he was the package! He was 23 when he died, I can only imagine how good he would've been about 4-5 years later. We were robbed of seeing one of the greatest fighters of all time IMO, not that it compares to what his family lost.
we dont know that either, with the battles hes gone through, he could have been shot by 27. People must remember ..He took alot of shots! even Lopez was hitting him and these were long fights. There would have been a rematch with a prime Nelson, that could have been a rivalry Salvador Sanchez was a great fighter no one disputes that, you dont outslug Wilfredo Gomez whether he went up in weight or not.
My respects to Manny Pacquiao, he's a terrific fighter, but a true boxer like Salvador Sanchez takes Pacquiao apart limb from limb! We're talking about a young bonafide great featherweight in Salvador Sanchez, not the 30 something past his prime JMM who has up till now schooled Pacquiao twice. There is no question in my mind that Azumah Nelson is the physically strongest featherweight I've ever seen. Much stronger than Pac at that weight imo...... Sanchez by late drubbing of a stoppage! .....and btw, a prime version of Nelson at 126 lbs would have stopped Pac as well!
NO problem Amigo! WOW!PAC is knock out again! In somebody's dream! IF there is a poll in the fantasy match up I guess it would have been 0-43. 42 of those loses were by KO:hi: If you can't KO pac in reality might as well Knock him out in your dream! Right sweet pea!?!
there goes another nostradamus getting revenge for his miseries by gloating about fantasy match up :rofl
I wonder who is delusional... those people who indulges themselves in analyzing boxers in the hopes of finding out who wins in a bout that more often than not will never happen because the boxers involved are either dead or old... or those people, in this case Filipinos/pacfans, who simply acknowledge the fact that dreaming is free and what really counts is what happens in reality. I'ld say it's the former...
