I like your welterweight rankings best amongst that lot, though I can't really separate Duran, Napoles and Gavilan myself.

But can we put Robinson there with such little film available of him at welter??? :think

Unless of course we extrapolate...I mean if he was that good at middleweight, surely would have been God at welter.

Good point. I've only seen bits of his fights with Docusen and Fusari at welter which isn't enough in and of itself to form a picture of Ray at welter. We should perhaps leave him off the list here, even though we can extrapolate off his middleweight showings.

I haven't seen much film of Ray Robinson at welterweight all the fights that I have ever seen him at were at middleweight. Which fights at welterweights are you referring to to place him at the top of the list. Serious question.....And can you send me the links if available.....I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Obvious queston:how much of a prime Benny Leonard do we have on film,as opposed to say Barney Ross?

The only lightweight footage available of Leonard is half an hour of the first Tendler fight, where the film is quite blurry and hard to make out. Other than that I have 10 minutes featuring his shell being tortured by Jimmy McLarnin.

With lightweight Barney Ross footage I have 33 minutes of his second fight with Canzoneri in clear quality and 22 minutes of his fight with Billy Petrolle in clear quality. Beyond that I have about an hour's worth of his trilogy with McLarnin, a few minutes of his fight with Garcia and 20 minutes of the Armstrong fight.

As you can see, quite a bit more to draw from when looking at Barney.

Furthermore, I'd say even the Leonard-Tendler fight featured Leonard a little past his best.

Sweet Pea's lists look very agreeable to me. I won't bother with a middleweight one, but his has all the correct names in it. I have exactly the same welterweight rankings with Kid Gavilan closely following the fifth placer. Our lightweight rankings differ somewhat, but then again, only in order as I have Williams third, Armstrong fourth, and Ortiz fifth.

    Heavyweights

    Ali
    Louis
    Holmes
    Lewis
    Liston

    Light Heavyweight

    Charles
    Moore
    Spinks
    Jones Jr.
    Foster

Which fight in particular impressed you at welterweight?
