Hagler and hopkins are not badasses.
Hoppo acted like a coward and cheat against calzaghe and was less than stellar against jones, while hagler was no badass against duran, vito or leonard...
Monzon is twenty times more badass than either...
Great pick for number one though.......

Great list McGrain, and a nice bit of fun.
Some strikes against BERNARD HOPKINS however:

1 Lost to a white guy.

2 Pretended to get punched up the balls when he couldn't handle the pace.

3 Prone to wearing a ****in stupid mask. Whatever the case me be against Tyson, he never wore a mask. He got a tattoo on his face instead.

4 Lost to Jermain Taylor. I'll repeat. Jermain Taylor.

5 Hasn't got proper teeth. And not in a menacing way.

6 Appeared to cry after beating Pavlik. Like, actually crying. Like a bird.

7 Fought Robert Allen 28% of his entire career.

8 Never took the cut necessary to avenge his biggest defeat. Instead, dominated what Roy left behind.

PS, I'll chuck in Tyson, Qawi, Barbados Joe, Benn, and Ketchel as worthy names.

I heard you the first time. Was just a bit embarrassed at having left him off.

Where does Johnson fit in? Because I'm with McGrain on that one, he his nr. 1 - by a longshot.

Glad to see you also think Nelson merits a place. Thought it a bit unfair that he was left out.

Johnson is number one in my book too. So much so that he hereby has a category all his own:

    * Bad Asses who Taunted and Tortured White Hopes Whilst Surrounded by Lynch Mobs

Don't know much about his outside-the-ring life, but based on the ring footage I've seen of him, Ike Williams looked pretty badass. Like a cool, calculating kinda guy.

Ike Williams nearly made the original cut. Outside the ring he tried to take on and reform all of boxing. Definitely a badass.

    A good mention.

Sharkey was as bad as they come. Bill Sykes turned to boxing.

Bob Fitzsimmons was a more rounded individual.
