Why did HBO put in Jones/Calzaghe as one of their best fights for 2008?

The fight was a disgrace, mildly boring and anti-climatic.

    JMM/Pac II
    Cotto/Margo
    Pac/Oscar
    Hopkins/Pavlik

definetely deserve the nod but Jones/Cal belongs more on a worse of 2008 list than a best of 2008.

    Mosely/Mayorga
    Taylor/Pavlik II
    Casamayor/JMM

and some other HBO PPV main events are more deserving than RJJ/Cal

They put it up there for the same reason they put Pac/Oscar up there and Hopkins/Pavlik up there.

They are one-sided dominations that no one expected to occur...No one expected Roy Jones to be a bleeding mess like that at the end of the day. A Calzaghe win yes...but like that? NO. And the KD made it an interesting fight for awhile. Then after the cut it just went down hill.

But I think Casamayor/JMM or Vasquez Marquez III would've been better fights to watch! :thumbsup

vasquez vs marquez III is a showtime fight and HBO has no rights to it.

Pavlik/Hopkins and Pac/Oscar were upsets...huge upsets at that. Joe/Jones went exactly the way how many envisioned it would be excluding the 1st round KD.

I prefer they put in Hopkins/Calzaghe instead even though it wasnt PPV.

That fight was nowhere near one of the best of 2008.

It was a pretty good fight, especially in the first 6 rounds when Jones landed more than a few nice shots and was in the fight. I mean what the hell? Boring? Hopkins-Pavlik, PacMan-DLH was boring, too one-sided. Still, these fight were the most important of 2008 (on HBO), also the fights with the best ratings, and don't forget, HBO is heavily after those numbers.

I agree, I thought it was a pretty good fight apart from Calzaghe pulling them stupid faces and looking like a tit.

Anyone with a few brain cells knew Calzaghe would dominate Jones. Had you seen Jones's last SIX fights before Calzaghe?? Obviously not or you would have known too. It was a horrible sham of a fight from when it was first announced, and it wasn't even the best fight that month.

To criticise HBO for including the Calzaghe/Jones fight only to include the horror show that was Pac vs Hoya is comedy gold. Dude, sort it out.

Umm I predicted Calzaghe to dominate roy jones, infact I new that the fight would end with Calzaghe slapping Roy at will against the ropes as he did. There was nothign suprising about the Roy fight.

I thought roy did better than I expected. Especially in the first half of the fight. I thought Calzaghe looked sluggish too. It looked like all the extra weight was in his saddle bags and his footwork seemed off. He just was still able to use his formula. It was a much more competitive fight than ODH/Pacman and Hopkins/Pavlik. They should have had JMM/Pacman, JMM/Casamayor and Cotto/Magarito as the best HBO fights for 2008.

They should have changed the series to "HBO's BIGGEST PUBLICIZED FIGHTS OF 2008".
