I disagree totally. It would have been a different fight, both are different fighters now than when the first one fell through when Hopkins doubled his demands at the last minute.

You have your opinion I have mine let's leave it at that.

As Dinamita said, we cannot just deduct points because the ref didn't. We can say though that even with all the disadvantages Calzaghe won by a clear, clear margin.

    I disagree.

People are blinded by the zero. I have been genuinely impressed by Joe Calzaghe's fighting skills for one half of one fight in his entire career - the second half of the Kessler fight.

Other than that, he has won fights using handspeed and workrate against lesser opponents. The perception of his "skills" is all smoke and mirrors. Had he ever faced a prime ATG, these attributes would not be anywhere near enough and he would have been clearly outclassed. He is not on that level, never was.

I look at fights like Reid, Thornberry, Jiminez, Salem, and I do not see an elite fighter. The one time he ever faced an ATG who could defend himself (sorry but I do not include the Jones fight, Jones was shot to ****), he was clearly outskilled but won because the ATG was 43 and no longer had the energy or stamina to assert himself on the fight.

Had this been the Hopkins of 2001-4, I honestly believe Hopkins would've raised his game to its highest level and produced a performance of Trinidad/Tarver/Pavlik style excellence to take the decision something like 9-3 or 10-2. That guy was just far too skilled for the Human Windmill, and would've had the workrate and stamina to negate those hallowed virtues of Joe.

    IMO :bbb

You may be right about Pavlik being the last stand though, guys at Hop's stage of life can age overnight, who knows.

By 'watched' I mean, for the first time in a serious manner.

Months ago I had seen it just as a fan and not really observed what happened.

 This is becoming painful to read. I'm starting to feel a bit guilty, you poor little fella. Here's a tip: either cancel your account and re-join with a new name and some credibility, or stop lying all the time. :good

As we are all saying ''what should have happened'' we should include the fact Hopkins definately deserved a point taken off, but the fact remains, only Hopkins distnant cousin who was one of teh judges gave it to Hopkins, proving Calzaghe won by a UD, theres no need for a rematch, as Calzaghe whalloped him, if he couldn't prevent being raped, he wasn't going to win a fight.

If Calzaghe had just stood still, and forced Hopkins to come at him from the opening bell, it would have been a horrific mismatch. Calzaghe obviously is a warrior and a boxer though and didn't wish to torture the fans.

If Calzaghe had fought as a counterpuncher, people would be calling it a massive mismatch. Hopkins simply couldn't move forwards in that fight without being being slapped and having to retreat again.

Calzaghe sacrificed himself and fought the oppposite way to which he should of and still won.

AHH I see, because I have chiseled Angled features, well, when you have chiseled looks its a good thing, Jugheads and roundness are considered rather unattractive.

I thought all this commotion may vanish that I changed my original splendid avatar to a more toned down version.

This is exactly how I saw it, both the first time (live) and watching a replay - Calzaghe worked Hopkins out and took over after 3 rounds, and while Hopkins was landing the odd effective punch every few rounds, Calzaghe was in control for the next 9 rounds.

I don't understand how people can say that Hopkins made Joe look a fool, when it was Hopkins who was faking low blows and pulling other stunts to buy breathing space.

I think a lot of the people saying this haven't seen much of Calzaghe and don't realise his style is awkward and therefore assume Hopkins was troubling him. Calzaghe is a machine as far as work rate is concerned, and he is so unorthodox that to someone who isn't used to his style, he can at times look out of control, but there is a definite method to his 'madness'.

How do we know you didn't just watch it on the radio? Apparently they were biased in Hopkins favour on the BBC.

You're about as funny as a prostate exam. Your same old routine is tired and boring now. With every passing day, more people are realizing this.
