yeah true. but something has to give cuz everyone w/in 15 lbs of MW has watched the fight with hopkins over and over again. so assuming pav man's up and does what has to be done by parting ways w/ loew...who would be a good fit to train him??

Can Miguel take a more active roll in fight preparation?

Anyone who is willing to read the entirety of this article with an open mind, will come away wth a slightly dfferent view of what happened in the Pavlik/Hopkins fight. I'm not saying Jack Leow doesn't need some help. I'm just saying read the whole article.

That was a pretty in-depth article. He'll bounce back from this, I'm sure of it.

But he really should have had the fight delaid a few weeks until he was 100%.

    Live & learn...

Doubt it, based on location and Diaz's other cornerman responsibilities.

I've actually been thinking about Diaz since the BHop fight. I think he is someone Kelly and Jack would both be very comfortable with since he has already been in the corner so many times. I also think he is more knowledgable and observant than Leow by a long shot.

I'm 95% sure that it was Diaz who noticed McKart carrying his left elbow to far from his body, and that pretty much ended the fight.

I'm 100% sure it was Diaz who said, "Kelly, don't just go and throw. Measure with the jab, measure with the jab," after round 3 of the first JT fight. After that the fight turned from an all out brawl to something a bit more tactical, and Kelly took over.

I think it would make a sweet combination. But, if Miguel is not available --- well -- that's to bad.

If one day there is the possibility of Pavlik working with Hopkins, Kelly would be simply crazy to pass up that opportunity ! Many fighters would die for the chance to have Hopkins share his craft... Hopkins also has the perfect work ethic to keep Pavlik on track with his training !

The thought of combining Pavlik's training standards with BHop's work ethic is actually kind of scary.

There is nothing a new trainer could do for Kelly Pavlik. He has developed his technique and craft as far as his natural coordination and speed will allow. He could be taught to be less dependant on the jab or how to cross over with his feet, but that's basically it -- and it would detract from the pressure he brings.

For all intents and purposes, Pavlik is as good as he's gonna get. Which is pretty damn good.

That's about as far from truth as you can get on that subject. KP is a multi-time national amature champion and finished his amature career with a record of 89-9. As young guy his style was very different. He did not develop the stalker-slugger style until he was in his late teens. He changed his style to make use of the power that showed up. He is very capable of change.

Well, What I would hope to see in the future is the ability (or mind set) to do like Coto did with SS Mosely. Pavlik just kept charging forward at BHops, I would have loved to have seen him do like Cotto did in the 2nd half and back off and box a bit and see how that goes.

He certainly needs to hear something more than "Double Jab X1000". That's all I've ever heard Leow say to him, ever. There is certainly much more to a match, esp. against high opposition than the double jab.

Pavlik does not need any radical changes. He has a powerful left hook that he seems to hold in reserve until he gets a guy in trouble. He has a lead right that looks like it was forged in the pit of hell, but he uses it very sparingly. First thing I would focus on is making him as good with the hook and the lead right as he is with the 1-2.

Also, that Loew makes a pretty mean prediction.
