Both have good chins. Plus's for Calzaghe are he's got hit more than a defensive stylist would, that comes when you throw a lot of punches. And secondly because he always comes forward the impact of some of the shots has been huge. On the other hand he's been stunned a few times and been on the canvas. Hamed was also down a few times, but I can't remember him ever looking seriously hurt. Sure, he could look clownish when he's trying to show off and gets put on his ass, but he never looked in trouble to me. His legs were always fine, that tells me balance issues more than anything. He also had no defence of his head whatsoever, so no impact was taken away from shots he took. I would say its quite close overall.
The uppercut calzaghe took from jones was crazy. I dont know anybody that could take that shot. Calzaghe. His recovery powers are his key.
Very good question. Style. But this wasnt the question so i answered it based on who out of the two had the most chance of getting stopped. I think for both men their chins are very good, but even though Calzaghe's balance issues are primarily earlier in the fight when feeling out and testing his opponent compared to Naz's constant balance issue, i feel he is more likely to get stopped because of this than Naz. Of the two options given, i think their is more chance(however slim) of Calzaghe getting stopped than Naz.
Very hard to say, they've both taken excellent shots and stayed standing, and they've both been down several times and got back up to win. Another similarity between the two is that they both respond to getting hit a good by launching an attack of their own. This time though i'm going for Calzaghe, i've seen him wince a few times, but that man has taken some absolute belter shots and came back swinging.
Calzaghe is really durable and can sustain a lot of punishment. See the Reid fight, he didn't tire from those shot or anything, which also comes into it.
You have not got anything to make distinctions with. Even though Barrera boxed the backside of Hamed - Hamed was never physically hurt. Jones caught Calzaghe with his forearm on the nose, that is the most vulnerable I have ever seen him - but guess what? Calzaghe retaliated with a onslaught of his own by backing Jones into the ropes. If push came to shove, it'd be Calzaghe because he goes on to win everything. But that is just in-ring intelligence he has and can adapt to many situations.
I would say joe as someone pointed out earlier due to naz unauthordox fighting style. he relied on speed rather than standing their getting wacked.
Hamed had the better chin, he went down alot of times because of his shaky balance. He was also the fighting the bigger opponents, so he was at a greater disadvantage, unlike like Calzaghe...
naz for me. don't remember seeing him ever in serious trouble. daniel alicea had him stunned-ish, before getting wasted in the next round. just balance issues with naz and being made to look silly when knocked down. joe has got a pretty overrated chin on these boards imo that is masked by the fact that he's got some serious recuperative powers going on. for a split second when he's getting up after being floored by mitchell he looks genuinely out of it, then boom his eyes light up and he goes to war like a ****ing idiot when the round starts again. he can be hurt but is pretty damn hard to keep tied down.
I'm fairly sure that people wouldn't be holding Calzaghe's chin in such high regard if he hadn't been such a bum chaser for most of his career. Yes, alright, the evidence says Calzaghe has the better chin. But then again, he got put on the floor in his last two fights. Hamed had a solid chin, but not as great as at first appears, his reflexes and fantastic conditioning made him hard to hit and hard to hurt. The knockdown again Daniel Alicea was the epitome of a flash knockdown. The knockdowns against Kelley were slightly more substantial, but in his entire career Hamed was, with one possible exception, never hurt at all, and certainly never came close to being stopped.
The KD against Alicea didn't stun Naz at all, maybe his ego, but he was up before he hit the floor, wasn't cloudy eyed, shaky legged or anything. I actually watched that fights and most of others today. The only time I saw Naz possibley hurt, was in the first round against Kelley.
Cant believe some of you voted for Naz atsch Calzaghe was only decked 4 times - 2 of those coming in his last 2 fights at age 35 & 36, he got up to win on all 4 occassions, 3 of those very convincingly, his head cleared instantly on each occassion. Plenty of fighters have hit Calzaghe on the button & he never budged, Naseem put on one of the all time sloppiest displays vs Kevin Kelley being floored once & touching down twice more when clipped by nothing punches (yes, balance was involved heavily but so was his chin), that would never happen to Calzaghe at any time in his career.
