Probably already posted, but all well. I just read on the front page that Joe Hipp is making a comeback in 2009. I was a big fan of his, and was actually trying to track him down a while back, but couldn't find him. He still lives in Washington the last I heard, but I still can't seem to track him down. Tough sonuva *****. Always liked Hipp. His war with Morrison was epic.

What an epic fight! They were so exhausted in the end.

Hipp was a tough, if not particularly talented, fighter. A decent fringe contender 10-15 years ago. Other than the usual need for money, I can't imagine why he would want to come back. The best he can hope for is to win over a bunch of nobodies and then maybe get a gig as a tune-up for some contender. And that would not really be for the best of his health, I would think.

I think you are 100% correct.
I read somewhere a few years ago that he and his family were returning from a trip and drove up to their home only to see the smoking remains of a completely destroyed house due to a fire. I believe that he had paid for the house from his ring earnings but was under insured and lost eveything.

Great fight. When you watch a prime Morrison, you can see his skill and why he was called a prospect and later a contender. When i watch the prospects nowadays i dont see anyone close to Morrisons skill level.

Hipp's prime came and went. He wasn't good enough to win a title in his prime. He's meat now vs anyone in the top 20.

I saw Hipp fight Bruce Seldon for the title and thought what a stupid fight strategy . He tried to move and out jab Seldon. He got his face messed up as a result. But no none was more tough than "The Boss"

Loved the Boss, but he wan't that good in his prime. Smallish, tended to put on weight, good but unspecatcular power, not a lot in the way of the finer points of the manly art of self defense.

But he was a southpaw and he was tough.

Ungodly tough man. The beatings he took from Cooper and Morrison would have killed most men.

Morrison broke both his god damned hands hitting him. Ridiculous.

He was a heavyweight version of Jake LaMotta.
