Larry's 7 year reign was more impressive by far.

Holyfield was schooled twice by Lewis and had an overall losing record against Bowe.

Holmes fought (and beat) Norton, Berbick, Ocasio, Shavers, Snipes, Cooney,
    Witherspoon, Cobb, Smith, Williams.

Overall, at heavyweight, Holmes faced a higher standard of opposition than Holy. He ranks higher as a heavyweight than Evander.

    And it's not close.

(And I don't like Holmes much.

I called him a good number of ****s on a thread two nights ago. In fact, he was usually a grade A ***** !)

No contest, Larry Holmes easily. Say what you want, he was the man for 7 1/2 years and they had to rob him to take it away from him. Lets face it, who did Evander really ever beat? A washed up over hyped Mike Tyson. He lost two of three in the Bowe trilogy. A glass chinned underacheiving Michael Moorer. An out of shape Buster Douglas who was himself a one hit wonder. Smokin Bert Cooper? Michael Dokes? George Foreman? In all due respect, they were all over the hill and past their primes with the exception of Riddick Bowe. The number of titles anymore is BS. The alphabet system is geared to give everyone a title so promoters can over hype average fights. Evanders legacy has suffered irreparable harm by continuing to fight and getting beat two out of three outings. Lennox Lewis won both fights with him easily, never mind the Don King
fix job in the first one. Evander is a top 30 all time heavyweight, nothing more.

Holmes' reign is easily more impressive. Keeping a title is more impressive then losing it a bunch of times. Besides, I don't even consider Holyfield a 4 time champ. He's really a two time champ.

Have to disagree. Holyfield fought better opposition than Holmes

Second fight with Lennox could go either way. First one was way UD Lewis. Great fights

Tyson may be overrated, but those wins are worth more than Holmes wins over Snipes, Cobb, Ocasio, Berbick, Smith and Williams all put together

Holyfield was the one to end Tyson's career

Yes, Holy is 1-2 with Bowe. But that version of Bowe was one of the best HW ever

Foreman of the 90's was more dangerous fighter than Earnie Shavers Holmes fought

Norton was 35 and past his prime when giving Holmes hell

Larry's rivals where the best he could get, very solid. But comparing them to the great heavies of the 90's is absurd.

Still, very difficult for me to tell what was more impressive - consistency of Holmes, or great fights of Holyfield in the 90's

Which 2 wins do you find not legit, over Douglas, Bowe, Tyson or Ruiz?

He won the title form Douglas, he lost it to Bowe and won it back from Bowe. Loses it to Moorer, Who loses it to Foreman, Who loses to Briggs, Who loses to Lewis, who Loses to Rahman who loses to Lewis who retires as champ.

Ok, I see your point. But every championship fight is a different story, and you have to earn your belt (unless you are in Sauerland stable).
Holyfield didn't get his titles cause his name was Holyfield, he earned it. Beating prime Bowe wasn't just winning back.

His loss to Spinks was controversial- so in theory his reign should have been longer. And he did face some very tough competition.

Spinks was better than Holmes in the first fight. But second was definetly controversial

What do you think, what record would Holyfield had fighting Holmes opposition and vice versa?
