Here's the real: Pac fought against a lethargic, lackadaisical, and outright a limited version of Oscar. I actually personally feel like Pac's style would have presented problems to any version of Oscar but none the less, the Oscar Pac fought shouldn't be the gauge on how he would do against others welters and I get the feeling it is. A live welter whose in their physical prime and properly trained would land the kind of punches that Pac has only felt in his worst nightmares. A fighter like Berto, who in my view has the fastest handspeed in boxing, who throws devasting punches with both hands, and is young with so much to prove would completely overwhelm Pac as the fight progressed into the late rounds. In the beginning I would expect a close contest but Berto's punches would inevitably take their toll on the much naturally smaller Pacquiao and he would eventually breakdown late. Berto by UD or perhaps late stoppage.
atsch probably cause there aren't any decent opponents out there who are under 30 years of age. why waste time posting irrelevant answers like these?
Any talk of Pacquiao or Berto tends to have that effect on me. When a thread is created about the possibilities of both fighting each other, well then it becomes all the more apparent.
Berto is good boxer, count me as his fan. But the three remaining fights for Manny before retiring I guess are; Hatton, PBF and JMM or Holt. Berto is not in his horizon so its a waste thing to talk about it.
Nice thread. Look at it this way. Did you ever watch the sitcom Martin? Remember when Martin fought Tommy Hearns? That is how the fight would go. Manny would be get hit so hard he would fly out of the ring and be plastered to the billboard just like Martin.
berto may have the physical tools but pac is simply a great and more superior fighter. the guy is simply not too skilled or experienced enough to hang with pac at this point. let him take on a A-level as well as an Elite fighter first before you draw conclusions on how possibly he will fare against a p4p king. just look at what happened to lacy against calzaghe or even pavlik against hopkins. these guys are young, strong and talented like berto but they all fell to the older, much more experienced and certified elite-level competition. you have to accept that in boxing there are many levels and classes of fighters. you just can't put a young, talented and very good fighter against a proven elite and great of the sport and expect him to win straight-away. he has to prove himself first that he can even be an elite fighter to begin with and earn that status before taking on the certified elites and greats of this sport.
Berto is not the bigger fighter. Manny is big enough to be at LWW and after the Forbes fight Berto was talking about how easy it was to make WW and about moving down to LWW too (how Berto has moved down from MW to WW is already amazing). As for the fight itself, Berto is young talented guy with good tools, but he's inexperienced. He's yet to see the kinds of things that a top level/complete guy like Pacquiao is going to bring into the fight. I too think that Berto would be able to beat the version of DLH that Pacquiao beat but it he would not have made him quit. At this point in his career Berto goes down in the 8-10th rounds after a relatively competitive fight.
