In my view, George Foreman really only made ONE defense of his IBF heavyweight title in 1995 against Axel Schulz.... Remember, George was stripped by the WBA by refusing to sign a contract giving the under achieving Tony Tucker a title shot in 1995.... Tucker would then lose to Bruce Seldon for the vacant WBA title in 1995....

By 1997, George Foreman was NOT the true heavyweight champion anymore, but rather a popular folks hero on HBO still making some noise.... In reality, George Foreman beat Shannon Briggs fairly easy over 12 rds... The decision that Briggs got was bogus.... I never considered Shannon Briggs a true champ until he KO'd Sergei Liakhovich in 2006....

In the late 1990s, I gotta go with Lennox Lewis as the true heavyweight champion... Why? Well, because George Foreman was cherry-picking and Mike Tyson won the WBC title in '96 against Frank Bruno and then got his ass kicked by Holy.... Lenny Lewis regained control of the WBC title in a bogus event pitting him against Ollie McCall in 1997.... Regardless, Lewis beat everybody after that until 2001....

    Note:

Dudes like "McCall, Bruno & Seldon" were mere Paper champs at best; not lineal / linear..... Shannon Briggs was NOT a champion in the 1990s..... Only in his mind.....:rasta

As for me, i'm sure Tyson became true world champion in 96' (since he beat both WBA and WBC beltholders), then Holy in november 96', and then Lennox since 1999.

holmes. easy. being a four time champion meant you lost it four times too. 7 years is a pretty long time to be a heavyweight title in that era

Tyson & Holy were true champs in 1996 alone..... Tyson was a pug by the summer of 1997, while Holy still had some claim to fame..... However, 1999 was all Lennox Lewis.....

After Lewis wasted Andy Golota in 1997, I sensed that Holy really wasn't too interested in fighting Lennox Lewis so quickly.... That's why they went different ways in 1998....:huh

I consider Holmes' achievments to be better than Holyfields.

Not really, cuz I admire BOTH careers and have them equal. Holmes consistency and Evander's opposition
But having Holmes reign way above Holy's 4 titles is unjustful for me
