I think they are going to have to take measures against USA heavyweights. That's the only way I see American heavyweights coming back. Right now in the other side of the Atlantic ocean we have athletic heavyweight boxer. They look well trained. Here in the States heavyweights look more like cruiserweights who are just too lazy to trained hard and lose the belly. 98% of them step into the ring hoping to land a lucky punch. That's not boxing. I don't know, may be the boxing commissions have to put a body fat percentage limit or something. Get the manatees out of the ring!!!

    Your thoughts.......

Sad but true. American heavyweights are terrible. We have a long way to go to catch up to the Europeans.

I think American big guys have more options to make money. SO they are playing basketball (NBA) or Football (NFL). The ones fighting right now are the ones who can't run

Ali couldn't run apparently, also can't imagine Foreman doing much other than punching someone in the face quite well! ;)

I think possibly the NFL/NBA thing is just an easy scapegoat, but it is probably more a move away from boxing in general. More opportunities accross the board in terms of schooling, university, jobs, careers etc.. a general change in social demographics. Either way, the Europeans aren't managing too badly considering that football, rubgy union, rugby league, cricket, athletics and tennis get far more of their young athletic talented sportsmen than boxing does.

All the Russians are pudgy as well, and they don't seem to really fight that hard. Remember Igbragomov at the garden? Oof-fah!

Since when did rugby league(and Union for that matter) and cricket become big European sports?

The list was just a general selection of sports which are predominant over boxing in popularity in Europe, it's obviously very difficult to accurately describe every single European countries sporting preferences in one sentence. Football is dominant in pretty much every European country in the same way that the NFL/NBA are in america, however, there are additional sports specific to each country which still more popular than boxing.

To use the examples you picked out: Rugby Union is prevalent in France, Italy, Ireland and the UK (..and League only adds to the total number of people playing 'rugby'). Cricket is pretty specific to England, but even that gets played in schools whereas you could probably count on one hand the number of schools that allow AM boxing.

All the other examples I listed, that you chose not to pick out your quote, are more popular than boxing in many European countries. Not to mention the dominating influence of football...so the point remains.

HELLO!!!!! HELLO!!!!! Anybody there?????? I am talking about present times. I am pretty sure Ali and Foreman have been retired for a while now. YOu just have to compare the body of Foreman and Ali in their peak with the heavyweights we have now. Thats exactly what I am talking about.

the best american hws imo are:

    1-Tony Thompson
    2-Eddie Chambers
    3-Arreola

Thompson, imo can compete with anyone besides the KLITS. he has a very akward southpaw style, big, busy, durable, tight guard

Chambers is very skilled but his size and conditioning is gonna make it tough to compete with the top 5 hws.

Arreola is a poor man's sam peter and is somewhere between the #11-15 hw right now.
