I want to preface by saying...in NO MEANS WHATSOEVER was I a Floyd nuthugger or even a HUGE fan of his. BUT After many arguments. Many debates. Many outlooks. Mayweather is a great boxer. I started off as a hater of his because of his mouth and money persona (which after watching the highlight vid, you'll see he actually was a humble guy). Watched him overcome obstacle after obstacle. Then actually rooted for him during the De La Hoya fight (and I'm half mexican). The man's greatness in the era is untouchable. He deserves the title as warrior. He deserves the title of being a pound for pound king. And sure he may have not fought any of the current top dogs at Welter Weight and we would've loved to watch those fights because I'm sure they'd be boxing classics. But he's already done so much. Been through many many wars and fought stiff competition AND NEVER LOST! I used to watch his best fights with passive eyes because I was looking for weakness. Looking for mistakes. Searching for a reason to hate him. But I've gained nothing from it and missed out on true artistry of the sport. The fact is...he HAS fought the best. Anything he does after 135 is just raising his already great resume to higher lengths. In a few years, he will be a more mature individual. He won't be talking as much. And people will put him on a much higher pedastool. Look at Roy Jones. THE ****IN' GUY USED TO RAP BEFORE FIGHTING! :-( If that doesn't spell cocky *******...I don't know what does...But looking at him now. He's more humble. He's more quiet with his antics. And he's an overall warrior. A philosopher. And great fighter. "Can't nobody ever stop me. Can't nobody ever keep me down. You can write that in your book when I die." - RJJ Call me a sucker for film. But I think when you mute his mouth, you'll able to see the lighter side of Floyd. Cmon man...how many of us have friends that do nothing, but talk a whole gang of **** and like to instigate ****? I have plenty. Do they actually MEAN half the **** they say? Not really. Floyd's the same way. Yea sure he says "I'll beat that ass" and doesnt actually brutally deliver such a statement. But that was NEVER his style. Floyd has always been a smart guy. He choses to outsmart you. He always figures his opponents out and you slowly see that he's already solved the puzzle in front of him. I still think he can show some humble attitude, but he's not a bad individual. When you just don't listen to a word he says, he's just a guy who dedicates himself to boxing. Loves what he does, stays focused. And goes out there to win. This concept of Floyd being scared is actually bull****. Just look at the man's face when he enters the ring. Any TRUE boxing fan KNOWS when someone looks unsure of himself before a fight. Floyd has NEVER shown this. He's self aware of his capabilities and doesn't need anyone's approval. I still think some of you Floyd fan boys need to wake up and realize he's not God in the ring and can VERY well lose, but overall I want to apologize to all of those who I've gotten into conflicts with (Nallege, Scar, Money Mayweather, Symphenco, Danny_Rand, p4pdabest)...he's earned my respects :good If he comes back...Great!...If not, let the man RETIRE IN PEACE. [YT]qeIoUCZWrKY[/YT] This will be the last thing I post or respond to as far as Mayweather goes (unless its for fight predictions that are ACTUALLY in the making)
very good read:good floyd deserves to be regarded as a great fighter. I respect floyd and i also believe he has done so much for the sport. 10 years from now we will be talking about how 'floyd does it' and 'how great he was' and not give a rat's ass about his antics and whatnot.
Floyd is a bit childish really. A lot of his fans are too. But he's not a bad guy at the end of the day. More 'annoying' than nasty. And he's a great exponent of boxing.
this will either get alot of hate or alot of love... i stick to my guns tho .. floyd left so he wouldn't have to fight the biggest challanges of his career... his last fight? . he beat ricky hatton who before that everybody considered a euro bum with refs in his back pocket... his fight before that? ..,he beat a part time fighter who was just stoped by a former 100 pound stick figure ... i'm not sold ... sorry
Im no Maywaether lover by any means but if you mean retired rather than fight Margo that seems a bit harsh. I dont think he did , but if even if he had Floyd started out at Super Feather and you think a fight against a guy who comes into the ring at Supermiddle - almost Lighy heavy is fair ? Floyd will never go down as a great warrior but for all round skill I cant think of anyone form this generation who rates higher.
Um.. Hatton has been regarded as the king of 140 for awhile now, saying 'everybody' is a bit of a reach, considering it was THE fight to make at 140 when Mayweather was there, outside of a Cotto fight, and even Ring mag, BEFORE the judah fight, put Hatton and Mayweather on the cover of their mag saying FORGET JUDAH, this is the fight people want to see or something to that effect. So no... not everybody considered Hatton a euro bum... The Hatton win was a good win, my problem with that is he was the welterweight 'champion' of the world, and never defended the title against any top 10 , legit welterweights, but the Hatton win, if you take away its context (meaning, who he SHOULD have been fighting INSTEAD *cotto, margarito*) is a good win for him... but anyways, the dude retired because he didnt want to take up the challenges that were cotto, margarito, and williams, that i agree with you on... he knew 147 was too much for him to continue dominating in the manner he needs to for his self esteem... so he left. Mayweather retired without ever defending his title against a top 10, legit welterweight.... and out of his 4 WW fights, 3 of those 4 fighters main body of work was at 140lbs... and baldomir was limited as hell and would be beaten and would have been beat by just about any other elite fighter at the time as well.... Mayweather at 147 is OVERATED... but his fans dont care, he retired undefeated so they can spout crap on how he would do this and that against REAL badasses at 147... but overated, he is.
when your the 'king' and 'champion' of 147, yes... its more then fair to ask that you face your number one challengers... if they are too big, then get out of the weight class. IMO
This might be partially true. But is is so bad? We don't hold it against Roy Jones that he didn't clean out the heavyweight division after beating Ruiz. That he went up there and got the title is an accomplishment. Roy does not belong there, and Floyd does not belong at welterweight.
are you guys for real? ..do we have to add up the potiental challangers that mayweather chose to retire in his early 30s! rather then fight? ...you go out after you've had your day ..you just dont up and quit in the middle of your prime because it gets tough
You dont know his reasons for retiring. I really dont understand the expectations for floyd to clean out ww. He is not a welter, is there any other fighters that you know that cleaned out their 4th weight class? Whitaker didnt clean out 154, Jones didnt clean out HW, Leonard didnt clean out 168 or 175. No one held that against them because it wasnt their natural weight. If this was 130/135 and floyd did the samething i'd be right there with the haters.
Great post and thanks for the Vid bro :good There is no denying that Floyd is one of the most gifted boxers of our time. He's probably the best i've ever seen. RJJ was gifted but this guy has what Jones never did - Great fundamentals. IMO PBF will be back and he will make great fights in 09. A Manny/PBF fight will be huge. The winner of Cotto/Margo II will get PBF late in 09. If this happened, 09 will be a great year for the sport...:good
Having watched all of his fights, you'll see that Floyd evolved from a very very humble fighter to a very cocky fighter once he broke out from his father's influence on him. His father was very tough on him growing up and managing him. Either way, not getting too psychoanalytical, if you watch his early fights, he was a pussycat, a very humble kid. Maybe I'll post some videos of his post fight interviews in those fights on Youtube, to see how some of the Floyd haters respond to videos their villain when he was just an innocent prospect. Honestly, it's like seeing the difference between Darth Vader and young Anakin Skywalker
Floyd has every boxing fan in every forum keeping his name alive, hate him or love him the dude is great.
