Im confident he could beat Wladimir and Valuev. Vitali would be a sterner test due to his durability and awkwardness.
Liston weighed in roughly at about 220 lbs, I dont know any cruisers that big. I think people are underestimating just how strong a man Liston was, I dont even see Vitali out-muscling him to be honest, Liston was a force, he gave prime Ali all he could handle for 6 rds when a little past his own peak.
Give Sonny Liston the same chance as any man today. With the diets, supliments and "other" stimulants taken by today fighters, he would be a complete nightmare. One thing he came into the ring with, is agression...... feirce agression. His attitude, and demeanor would have most heavies in fits. I wonder if Holfield (late 90s) would be able to change his way of thinking???
They are bigger 6'3, but you cant say they are "superheavyweights" like Klitchkos or Lewis..Ali was 6'3 or more and look at my avatar
I always liked Sonny and he along with Johnson and Dempsey and a few others are my favorite HWs.Present times give very little to follow.
What? You really believe Liston would have a hard time with Ibragimov:-(,Arreolaatsch and Povetkin:blood?
he had good defense if you watch his fights closely. and yes he would destroy todays heavy's. he will struggle with vitali and destroy wlad. vitali is a tougher challenge becos of his extra reach, workrate and overall toughness.
On what basis? He beat Patterson, Machen and Folley then what? I mean, Ingemar Johansson did that, even before Sonny ever got to them.
