In a major upset, Thai fighter, Denakaosen Kaowichit upsets Takafumi Sakata knocking him out in round 2 on wednesday in Japan! Their first fight was a draw. Kaowichit is now the new WBA flyweight champ.:bbb

Problem is no-one pays attention to the Asian scene, at times it produces more action and more quality fighters but they are at weights which no-one caers about, I have called for the creation of a boxing 'magazine' show which also highlights the Asian scene

Sakata was always one of the worst Asian champs, certainly the lesser of the Japs including Naito and Hasegawa who is looking excellent at the moment.

    Still....:yikes

wow, what another great way to end the year of the upsets with another huge upset

I wonder what this means now? Will the Thai take that title home and keep it hostage there or do the right thing and fight the unstoppable force that is Koki Kameda.

That's a pretty damn big one, I can tell you that!

BTW, Sakata was never stopped before.

Bloody hell! Just watched the fight now.

Kaowichit dominated from the opening bell and didn't let up. The right hand Sakata was caught with was fantastic and he did a little chicken dance ala Zab Judah before been counted out. Great win which was no fluke.

Interesting. At first glance the Thai does not seem a huge puncher, however if you look at his record he has a surprising number of clean KO's. Crazy actually.

Do the refs just allow nature to take its course over there? Or is there no detail to the records, everything goes down as a KO?

Don't know but judging by this fight the refs might allow the fight to take its course.

The ref could have stopped the fight as the soon as Sakata went down as you could tell he was really hurt but he counted till ten with Sakata on his back for nearly the whole count and just attempting to get up as the ref reached 8.

P.S. It wasn't a flush shot on the chin but rather to the side of the head.

Ah, that might explain things with the ref.

Maybe an equilibrium thing. The chicken legs point to that, because I've seen Sakata take some fair digs to the chin.

He got up as the ref finished the count but his legs were like jelly and there was no way he could continue.

the first fight between the two as a draw and the Thai fighter had done excellent early in the fight before fading... I did not see this fight but ready several reports about it ... also a hard knockdown was scored in the first round by the Koavitch against Sakata.. so in my opinion it was not such the big upset as compared to it being a knockout.... i thought that the fighter from thailand might win... but to stop Sakata so emphatically is what surprised me the most....
