the guy was given a beating against hopkins, i'm a big fan of his, i predicted he would KO jermaine taylor, but he has some major flaws.

against taylor it was easy for kelly to find him, taylor showed no lateral movement, he always went straight back, thats why pavlik found it easy to Knock him out. hopkins was a different fighter, pavlik and his dumb trainer thought hopkins was going to stand infront of him waiting to be hit, throughout the fight hopkins moved to his right, staying away from pavliks right and the only punch he had to look out for was the jab, and b-hop made easy work of just parrying it out of the way. now he needs to throw more hooks and uppercuts, because after a bit fighters will figure you out if the only thing you throw is a jab followsd by a straight right.

against b-hop, pavlik could not cut off the ring, he followed hopkins around the ring, it just looked so bad, if he cut off the ring then he could punch and hurt hopkins, these are major flaws for a fighter. during the fight someone in the corner said to hopkins that "this joker is made out to be a superstar and he can't cut off the ring", this tells you everything.

but this is the main bit in the fight which made me take notice, in round two just after hopkins stuns pavlik and he wobbles around the ring, i thought he had recovered and everything, and he stands front on with both his hands down low, now is this guy asking to be KTFO.

now he has all these flaws but he still is a good prospect, he needs to get a proper boxing coach and forget about all this conditioning. i think the joke coach roach might be a good option, he needs to concentrate on improving his boxing not his conditioning.

the only fight that will probably show if pavlik has improved is a fight with winky wright. paul williams would just stand infront and try to beat pavlik with workrate, wheras winky will look to box him.

There aren't many around like B-hop who have the ability to outbox Pavlik like that - also Pavlik is his own biggest critic, he will learn a lot from that defeat

Pavlik was able to cut off the ring, it's just that Hopkins is far superior on the inside so what good did it do for Pavlik? Hopkins just ate him up.

I think he needs to add more to his arsenal. Like you said, adding the upper cut. Add a hook. In retrospect, he was way too predictable for Hopkins. But let's not forget that Hopkins is a once in a lifetime phenomenon. :good And Pavlik did have a bit excess on him at 170.

I don't think he's as bad as some think he is. I still think he's the best MW out there.

Oh, and having watched this fight multiple times, Pavlik landed maybe 3 flush right hands. Is that ridiculous or what?

williams isn't a boxer, with all his abilities he would be a quality boxer, but he likes to fight, take his fight with margarito, he never boxed margarito, he was first to the punch and out worked him, he worked his jab, and as the fight went on he catched margarito with some good combinations. i don't think williams wants to be seen as the boxer, like mosley he has all the abilities but he wants to go in there and fight.

actually i just watched that fight day before yesterday and williams showed good movement and boxing ability. true he likes to fight but when he figured he couldnt beat margarito into submission he boxed and move and clinched when he needed to. just like a boxer. Peterson even kept tellin him to "keep turnin him, keep turnin him"

now knowin that he's the smaller man he will box kelly and use his speed and movement to get him off balance. i think he will employ the same tatics he did with marg against pavlik who is a heaver puncher. of course he's gonna get hit cuz he's not a "slick" boxer but he has the ability.

Pavlik needs to tighten his defense and throw that left hook. The hook lands with force and he could really make it useful to make his offense more imaginative. I agree that he does need to improve. Before the Hopkins fight it was almost like the Pavlik gameplan for every fight was "we'll just go into every fight with the double jab and the straight right hand and dare anyone to try and thwart it if they can." The whole plan was based on power, chin, and conditioning...that never works well for anyone for very long, except JCC really.
