He can't get big fights at 147 that's why. Arum hates Paul's promoter and froze him out of the divison forcing him to move up. Arum knows Williams beats all 3 of his boys in Cotto, Clottey and Margo so he wants no parts of him. BTW Phillips didn't bust his face up that cut was caused by a headbut, quit making **** up to further your agenda. We're not that stupid here.

This is a tough fight to call, if it is the same Winky as the Trinidad, Taylor, Hopkins fights, I think he wins comfortably. But two years off is a long time when you're as old as Winky. And, from what I know of him, he's not a Hopkins type who keeps himself in great shape even when he's off. I think I remember reading somewhere that he was up around 190 at some point. Still, he's a great fighter and you can never count him out. It wouldn't surprise me if he lost every round, or if he muscled and embarrassed Williams.

It's almost impossible to handicap a fight like this when one of the fighters is such an unknown. I wish Winky would have taken that warm up fight earlier this month to see where he's at. At this point it's all just guesswork.

foolish fan boy? your joking right? what makes me foolish... im one of the most level headed posters on this forum....

    hbo didnt accept clottey
    cotto is busy
    margarito is busy
berto is not ready & busy
    quintana is hindsight & busy
    cintron is mia
    collazo is busy
    dzinzurik isnt going anywhere!!!
vernon is available but winky is still a better fight

and what do you even mean "be sergie's mandatory" as if paul was coming up specifically to fight dzinzurik....

im sorry fam but nobody cares about these random euro guys....

dzinzurik was a completely irrelevant name until people started digging up names for someone to beat paul williams

to be great in life you need to take big risks and paul is doing this by facing winky..... he's a world class boxer, a future hof'er, and a recognized name that if paul beats its a big win (unless winky is completely & totally washedup) dzinzurik is going to be there and paul is trying to build himself up so he can have super fights in the future... and by fighting dzinzurik he's is'nt accomplishing that.... if anything its stupid to try to even take the fight because if he happens to lose... he lost to some unknown euro fighter who will steal all of paul's momentum... its just not worth the gamble.... against winky though it is worth the gamble... at the end of the day winky is probably a better fighter than dzinzurik anyways so you can call it what you want but im a level headed boxing fan who enjoys paul for being a great champ who takes a risk every time he steps in the ring because he could just sit around at 147 and just beat up on smaller guys but he goes anywhere and fights the best which is something rare in today's state of boxing.....

so call me a "foolish" fanboy... but i love the sport of boxing and i want paul williams to carry the torch for the sport because i know he will carry the torch with pride.....

you on the other hand can hate on paul all day for

fighters who nobody even know... and continue to wish for stagnant progress for the sport of boxing instead of it floorishing to the great sport it once was in the past......hopefully for yoursake he loses some time so you dont have to look for more random things to nit pick him for

BS. PW could get a fight with Clottey right now if he wanted. They had already tried in November but couldn't get it done, not because of Arum, but because the HBO BAD budget wasn't big enough to accomodate both fighters. And even if beltholders like Berto were avoiding him, he could drop the WBO and become the mandatory for the other belts if he were so inclined. I mean, that is how he got the Margarito fight in the first place is it not?

Sure, Phillips did cut Williams with a headbutt. But what about the other cuts? Were they all caused by the headbutt too? Is this now the "magic headbutt" theory? :nut

Berto is not fighting goddamn paul williams... lets be serious berto's people would never let that happen...

    and cmon be rational...

    winky or clottey?

    are you serious?

and how come when paul is hanging around people say he needs to leave and fight people his size.... now that he's fighting people bigger than him people request that he fights welters?

PW tried to fight Clottey, HBO would not televise his fight on the Nov. date. Now if Clottey really wanted to fight, why didn't he challenge Paul after the Verno fight. I haven't heard a damn thing from him since the fight. Berto's manager already said he would not put him in the ring with Paul or Margarito because they are too big. Cintron faked a hand injury to not fight him. Margarito acts like he doesn't know who Paul is. Cotto chose to fight Margarito after he lost to Williams, that alone speaks volumes about him.

Being a fan of boxing as opposed to being a fanboy, I prefer to see competitive match-ups. Yes, I believe a fight against Clottey would be more competitive. But whatever. You want him to fight Winky. Fine. Be carefule what you wish for. But why stop there? You're a fan of boxing right? Why not have him fight Sakio Bika? Or how about Librado Andrade? Or Jermain Taylor? Why not Mikkel Kessler? Hell, why not Hopkins? Didn't Paul say he could beat him? And if he could beat Hopkins, then I'm sure Calzaghe would be no problem for him right? But not Chad Dawson right?:rofl

    Notes:

    - lack of big names

to me whats going to make the difference in this fight is how well winky is prepared

I've made threads pairing Jermain Taylor & Paul Williams...

Look im a fan, not the fighters mother.... if he is willing to take these big risks all i can do is cheer him on for having the heart & belief in himself to do so.... Aside from that i think he has the physical gifts to give himself a chance... and if you think winky is going to blow paul out your sorely mistaken.... maybe paul will lose.... but to say he will lose like tito lost is insane... and someone mentioned Paul Vs Bhop.. and if paul was willing to take it i belief that he think's he can win... nobody makes fight's assuming their going to lose unless their broke and on their last legs which paul is far from.... and **** if he think's he can take calzaghe... im all for that as well... I only believe in Paul because he believes in himself.. so to call me a foolish fan is calling paul a foolish man

Here's an interview from Clottey from a couple weeks ago that came out on this very site:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=18231&more=1

I never said Berto wanted to fight Paul Williams. I said Paul Williams could drop the WBO and make himself the mandatory for the other belt holders at 147, one of which is Berto.

Fighters don't choose their fights, their promoters do that. Unless you're Margarito and you sue your promoter to fight your mandatory, which he did in order to fight Williams the first time. That usually doesn't happen. Although you don't seem to have a high regard for Cotto, he has fought and beaten more top ten welters than Paul Williams has.

you understand that the risk paul is taking in fighting winky and that if he win's it will probably be bigger than any possible fight he could realistically make right now (clottey, dzinzuaerik, vernon phil)

That's why I called it a cash grab, if it happens.

You do understand the risk Paul is taking with his health if he gets in there and is over-matched? You'd better pray that Winky is shot. Seeing as how he hasn't been badly or decisively beaten, ever, and obviously hasn't been fighting too much lately, I'd think that's probably not likely. If he's not completely shot, this could easily turn into Calzaghe-Lacy II. Winky already retired Tito and he was KO'ing guys like Joppy at 160, not Andy Kolle.
