Why are weigh-ins done so far before the fight that a fighter can add 5lbs overnight and technically be in a 'higher weight category' they should do it an hour before they step into the ring and if anyone has gone over the title will no longer be at stake but the fight will still go ahead, or perhaps knock 2 points off the offending fighter.

it is something that has me curious (proably a valid reason for this)

Many fighters punish themselves to make weight, this would still happen whenever the weigh in is. At least at the moment a fighter has time to rehydrate and prepare properly.

Weighing in a couple of hours before a fight would result in fighters putting their health at even greater risk than they do at the moment.

They used to have weigh ins on the same day as the fight and fighters used to dehydrate themselves even back then, but they now do it a day or two before the actual day of the fight to prevent fighters from being dangerously dehydrated during the fights. Seems safer to do it this way even though they are cheating a bit.

If you have to dehydrate to make weight then you're not at the right weight thats all there is to it. I know its the way of boxing today but I say if you have to go anymore then 5 -10 pounds below you're walk-around weight then you're fighting at too low of a weight, or you're just a fat ass and need to watch what you eat during you're rest time between fights.

    I agree with this 100%

Imagine what weight guys like Kessler, and Calzaghe went into the ring at Super Middleweights? Its a huge advantage to have an ability to strip weight then gain 5kg over night like these two do/did.

It sounds like a good idea but it's really not. The example of DLH coming in feeble and meek looking would be repeated again and again, with fighters getting down to their minimum, dehydrated emaciated weight just in time for he opening bell.

Yeh, but that would serve them right for fighting at the WRONG weight. Fight at the right weight and there isnt a problem.

Unfortunately fighters cannot be trusted to make these type of wize decisions. Fighting dehydrated is dangerous. A great number of deaths occurred this way when there used to be same day weigh ins.

Draining to make weight in a division lower than your Natural weight has been the tradition for many years now. That's the part i don't understand, since they blow up the following day anyways...Why not get in the ring at your peak and healthiest? Not from weeks of draining?

It is a good idea but you will have guys still making the weight drain. If more death occurs because of it, there goes the sport.

As much as we the fan like to ***** and moan about it , the boxing board has to look at the fighter's health and try and protect the fighters from themself.
