Cotto has mentioned Hatton many times; why hasn't Hatton Shown Interest?

There is no reason for Hatton to risk a fight with Cotto, although it would be a great match.

 

At 140 lbs I dont know who to pick but I would probably lean towards Cotto. Either way it aint going 12 rounds.

 

Shouldn't Cotto be more concern with avenging his lost then to look at Hatton? Hatton has his own bussiness with Pac coming up. WHy would he care what Cotto says?

Call out guys at 147 Cotto and leave the 140 lbs alone.

 

According to Steve Bunce Hatton has wanted this fight for years. I've never actually heard Ricky talk about it though. Never directly as a possibility - but I don't live in the UK, so I'm not directly plugged in out there.

 

Actually, I do remember Hatton mentioning Cotto after moved back down to 140 after the Collazo fight. He mentioned he will only go back to 147to fight Mayweather or Cotto.

 

ie, the smaller welters.

 

Because Cotto couldn't make weight anymore and had to move up, they did talk about a possible fight back in the day but Cotto was still considered new and later found out that he couldn't even make it there. At 140 Hatton knocks him out.

 

This fight never came close because Bob Arum's master plan for years and from the very beginning was Mayweather-Cotto at the point when Cotto reaches superstardom. To be honest, Cotto never looked like a fighter who could stood a chance vs. the Ricky Hatton in the 140 days, was rocked too many times and limited by the serious weight-drain. I was much more impressed with him at 147, and of course disappointed in Hatton at that weight.

Then Mayweather walked into the sunset and left the Bobfather crying, but like a spark in a dry forest came the idea of Cotto vs. Margarito, which could've happened in 2007 if Tony didn't want to make his mandatory vs. a certain Paul W.

Now his grand plan is PacMan-Hatton at 140, and rightfully so, Pacquiao is on the very top of his game, played his part in the circus show a few weeks ago extremely well and looked like a legitimate LWW in there and style, stance and great timing favors him anyway, so Arum is more confident now with PacMan than back then with Cotto.

Arum always tries to keep the fights inside his house if possible, maybe the neighbour can come over for BBQ (Richie Rich).

 

Good stuff, Boom_Boom. I figured Bunce had to be getting that from somewhere.

I don't think the Hatton that was rocked by Lazcano could take the kind of punishment that Cotto dished out to Margarito in the first few rounds of their match-up.

Cotto won't be making LWW, so at WW Cotto administers a clinical breakdown over six rounds.

 

I'm pretty sure even Hatton knows why they never fought.

 

Hatton was ALWAYS talking about a showdown with Cotto when they were in the same weight division. He even talked about it for a while up until it was clear that the fight was never going to happen. At 140, Hatton takes him.

Winner of Hatton vs PacMan to fight Mayweather. (at wembley)

For one is Cotto gets past Margarito then he has to fight a lesser opponent in Dec and wait for a P4P match in May/June 2010.

Atleast we have an exiting year ahead of us. I dont know what happens though if Margarito beats Cotto again because i doubt weather Mayweather,Hatton or Pacman are big enough to fight him.

hatton and cotto can still fight now if they want to. cotto is not that big as a welter since he came from 140. i even think mayweather is more of a natural welter than cotto. so size-wise, cotto has no significant advantage on hatton. this fight can probably be done at a catchweight of about 143-144.

 

Neither really ducked the other......

It wasn't as if an offer was made or one was mandatory for the other.

Fight just didn't happen. It doesn't automatically mean there was ducking going on.
