According to a report released today, Toney issued again a new challenge to Wladimir Klitschko. His goal is to fight Wladi before the end of the year. If he does not get that fight, he is also ready to fight Vitali. Toney hopes that the win of the NABO title will move him up significally in the WBO rankings to be published next month so that he can get a shot at WBO king Klitschko. Now, we all know that Waldi pefers to fight the inexperience and unproven Aurolea. So, the question is: Is he scared of James who clearly stated that he is ready to fight Wladi anytime? I do not give Toney much of a shot but I do not understand why Wladi is fighting an untested fighter. Toney - Wladi would be a much bigger event, just think of the press conderences.
Toney mouths off about the Klits all the time. Arreola, if he can land, can beat Klitschko. But in the shape he's currently in, I'd expect it to be a bit like Sam Peter vs. Vitali, with Wlad jabbing Arreola to death and eventually stopping him. Would love to see Arreola win though, at least he's entertaining.
I agree Toney is a more credible opponent than the green Aureola, and would create a bigger interest among the boxing public. But Toney isn't ranked as high as Aureola and his lackluster performance against Oquendo didn't help much either... I've always said Toney should chase the WBA belt, he has a shot at beating both Valuev and Chagaev. I can't see him beating either Klitschko at the moment. It seems like the Toney-Thompson fight doesn't happen after all... well **** it, but Toney should at least take a couple tune-up fights against ranked HWs and beat them clearly before seriously challenging the Klitschkos - if he doesn't do that and get his weight down I can even see him get stopped for the first time in his career by the Klitschkos (if the fight should happen), and I don't wanna see that. IF Toney comes in in great shape and with a good 12 rds of tune-up fight he could give the Klitschkos a lot of trouble - just like Emmanuel Steward said it, styles make fights - but at this moment he is simply not ready for the Klitschkos.
It would be a bigger event in the usa but as long as RTL has a say in this they won't agree. There's no way that you can sell an out of shape guy like Toney to the european and especially to the german audience. After the Rahman fight it'll even harder and he would get a lot of criticism since JT is a nobody in europe among casual fans. Besides: Do you really think that Toney deserves a shot after his recent performances?
Toney is definitely more credible than Aurolea. Like stated above, Aurolea is completely untested and has zero chance of upsetting the champ. Lennox Lewis said the same thing. I gotta see Toney in there with Waldo. Toney is a real fighter who still knows how to fight, an ATG who has only lost once to Peter at heavyweight so far. So it is more rewarding for Waldo (also financally) to face Toney. But after facing the man who quit in 3 rounds against Toney, Waldo perfers to take on the untested Aurolea.
Toney struggled against Oquendo but he has enough to beat Wlad:nut Toney would get ****ed up in this fight his reflexes are slowing and he is getting hit more often, Wlad would beat the bully.
I agree. In reality, Toney does not deserve a shot because he was again not in good shape. But did Holyfield, Rahman or Aurolea deserve a shot? RTL was marketing the Holyfield - Valuev event pretty well and Holy was considered as being totally shot. So yes, I believe it would be no problem because the german public is totally incompetent. Marketing Toney as a an ATG woud do the job.
Well, Wladi also beats Aurolea and probably stops him too.Wladi probably beats anyone right now. Aurolea has not even faced someone like Oquendo. He will get stopped early. We all know that Rahman would get stopped. Toney is an ATG who has faced tough competition at heavyweight. Let's give the man one last shot, then he can retire.
It wouldn't be funny that for the Toney fans if this fight was to happen... Lights OUT time for james.
$ Why is Mosley allowed, he did drugs bigtime for years. A lot more boxers than you think do drugs. Holy, Roy,it is the same thing. Toney is fat so he did only cheat occasionally.
