Perhaps. But we're talking about physical fitness using BMI. BODY MASS INDEX This blend of weight and height is remarkably sound, considering its simplicity. And because BMI is widely used in studies, it is the only body fat index that conveys risk of disease or death. You need only rudimentary math skills and a calculator. Accuracy: Reliable but not foolproof
Much harder fight for Pacman than many are suggesting. If you ignore the DLH fight, he's still moving up in weight to fight someone who has never even come close to losing at 140 having only fought once(albeit very impressively) at the weight below(Diaz)
You're right. If I may add though, Boxing Historian Bert Sugar has this to say before their fight: "Manny Pacquiao has power, it just comes from manny punches. But speed is always an equalizer in anything and it's speed that is the equalizer in Oscar's height, weight and reach advantages. The most interesting statistic in the ''Tale of the Tape'' is that Manny has a bigger fist. You get hit with fists and not height. Manny, in my mind's eye has an excellent chance if not knocking out Oscar, at least outhustling and outmuscling him, especially since Oscar has shown stamina problems coming down the stretch." Bert Sugar by the way correctly predicted that Pacquiao wins over De La Hoya. So Pacquiao has some physical advantage over Hoya like his fist.
Exactly speeds incredibly important, it doesn't matter how big or powerfull someone is, if the other guy is too quick for you to hit power makes no difference. And if the other guys punches are too quick for you to avoid your gonna lose
Speed is an illusion. It's actually a reflection of timing. You don't need to be quick to be quick. Look at Hatton/Pauli, Tszyu/Judah, Froch/Pascal etc... Manny is faster, sure, but he'll need to apply that speed to his defence. Hatton is stronger and doesn't step back. Pac will not back Hatton up so he needs to apply his speed to his feet, keep moving and keep countering Hatton all the way to win the fight. He could realistically stop Hatton this way through accumulation but I suspect Pac will end up getting sucked into a brawl which will be his undoing. I reckon one of them, probably Pac, will fall late through exhaustion. Both men will be out on their feet in a war that we'll all remember as a timeless classic. Can't wait.
A "brawling Pacquiao" is kinda a myth. He very rarely fights toe to toe nowadays. He just doesnt have that ATG level chin that a true brawler needs to fight toe to toe. You know, like, willing to receive 2 solid punches in order to throw one hard punch back in return. He just doesnt fight that way anymore.
That's because Pac dictates the fight, something he can't do with Hatton. Even Mayweather couldn't keep the fight on the outside with Hatton, how the hell will Pac do it? :hey
I'm just sure that Freddie Roach and Pacquiao will not have "BRAWL" as one of the fight plans in that fight. They'll only pull out all the stops when they seriously hurt Hatton and they're trying to end the fight. No way Pacquiao's gonna brawl.
For his sake, this does make sense as a plan. Mayweather was quoted as saying his gameplan went out the window because Hatton wouldn't stop coming forward and he was forced to play Hatton's game. I hope Pac can deal with this because I'm looking forward to probably the best match up us fans will witness in a long time.
I really fancy hatton for this one he defo has the power to ko pac but I don't think this works the other way around. Pac has the greater skill for sure tho so depends on tactics. Should be a good match up for the trainers too, mayweather v roach, sure gonna be interesting.
I think we boxing fans will be a bit surprised come fight night. I think this will not be an all out, pier 6 brawl at all. Yes, it will be action packed and entertaining, but this wont be a mindless slugfest. It will be more tactical and more technical than we all have ever expected, but fought with still bad intentions in every punch thrown. Their trainers will make sure of that.
