Imagine it's late 2009. Kelly Pavlik has taken care of Rubio and Abraham. Paul Williams has taken care of Winky Wright and lets say Vernon Forrest for sake of argument. The stage is set in Atlantic City. Williams is going up to middleweight to fight the undisputed middleweight champion. Is it me or would this fight provoke memories of great middleweight fights of yesteryear? Personally I think this would be such an intriguing fight and one that I think could be a potential classic. Do you think Williams would go after Pavlik? Who would win and how? And - in fantasyland - wouldn't it be great to see a middleweight trilogy from thesy guys.
I think it would be a good stye mesh and a fight I can see happening in the future. Not sure if I would class this as a dream match, it isnt uncommon for larger welters to compete at middleweight, history is full of examples, also I wouldnt describe Williams or especially Pavlik as an out standing talent. Kelly is very beatable. It is no certainty he even gets by Abraham. A good match, but not a great one.
apparently kp is intrested in a fight against the winner of williams/wright. i think that pavlik wouldnt be able to handle the constant pressure williams will pile on him and will be stopped in the 9th round
I think Williams will go on to prove he is an outstanding talent. I also think Pavlik will ko Abraham.
Not everyone http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76230 But Pavlik-Abraham really should happen first. Abraham will leave the division win or lose, so Pavlik can still fight Williams for a title, win or lose.
I suppose the appeal of this depends on alot on how you rate Paul Williams. Personally I think he'll make a good light middle, but if e makes a decent enough splash to get everyone talking about a middleweight title is yet to be seen. I have similar reservations about Williams as I did with Kelly Pavlik.
i agree.. Rubio will not be much of an obstacle for the Ghost.. but the Abraham fight is as intriguing a matchup their is right now for the Middleweight champ... and it would clear things up in that division as well to unify a majority of the major belts..
Kelly's handlers try to prevent him from making the biggest mistake of his life - AA would KO him and his career would be destroyed - Bad turnout for AA but that's life...thanks Bob for having finally woken up... Now, I would love it for Sauerland to forget the whole Bute - Larsen story cause it wouldn't make that that much money (it would certainly sell for them in Canada but this would mean that they aren't the organisator). Instead, try to negotiate a fight between AA and Bute (with SE still having the joker card to make it as Lucas' promotion owes them a fight with Bute) to happen in the US (why not AC?), hell even Montreal with SE setting up the judges and the ref! So come on, let's do this...
yea, even b4 his loss to b-hops i see AA a bad style match for kelly, still would be a great match because both have heart. i think kelly could beat him on the outside, but AA is the stronger, harder puncher on the inside. also, like Morales, Kelly easily could be lured in a slug match. also one important factor, if they would meet at 168, AA would have an advantage here because it's the weight he's been fighting for a longer time than kelly has. wouldn't be surprised if both end up dropping each other in a modern day classic and probably the best fight ever at 168 next to Benn-McClellan
