20 Worst Heavyweight Champions of the 20th Century

Morrison should be lower on the list. Bruce Seldon should be higher - useless. Bruno was not that bad - lowend of the list.

 

Pity. A number of good fighters and honest triers on that list. But it is a champions' list. So some people has to be on it, I guess.

 

I don't think that Terrell belongs on that list. His style was a bit unattactive, but he was pretty effective, in a safety-first sort of way, and he had a GREAT left jab. He just had the misfortune of being in the way of a pissed off, fired up Muhammad Ali, that's all.

 

I do find it interesting that two guys who beat that ATG Jack Johnson made the list.

 

Jimmy Braddock shouldn't be on the list

He went into the Baer fight a huge underdog against a man who killed Frankie Campbell in the ring and got his tactics spot on

 

Hide should be in the top five.

 

I'm not sure how this list is intended to work, but if #1 represents the absolute worst, then Francesco Damiani should not be up there. Additonally, Mike Weaver was a better fighter than some lineal champions that I can think of, and like one poster mentioned, where is Valuev?

 

its only of the 20th century so valuev wassnt champ in 1999 so hes not on the list

 

I dont think that Primo Carnera should be on the list. He actualy has a prety respectable body of work overall.

 

John Ruiz takes the top ten spots IMO as the absolute worst heavyweight champion in the history of the sport. He's miles worse than Carnera who was basically the mob controlled heavyweight champion. Thankfully Joe Louis put an end to that joke. I'd rank Earnie Terrell a little higher up as one of the worst HCOAT. It's shameful to this day that he thinks he beat George Chuvalo. I'd put that fight as one of the biggest robberies in the sport right beside Lewis vs Holyfield I, Leonard vs Hearns II, and Delahoya vs Quartey.

 

Tony Tucker has kicked the door down. How you can possibly consider Spinks, who beat a great champ and was a legit #1 and not Tucker, who won a vacant title and held it for eight weeks is beyond me. Overall, pretty good list. Ray Mercer should be on there as well as Tucker and I agree with the people saying Seldon should be higher.

 

1) Yes, it goes from worst to least-worst, meaning the #1 (Damiani) is ranked the worst on this list.

Because Tucker lasted more than 90 seconds when he lost his title.

Anyway, I only just threw out a few names.

 

Who would be in that list now?

Valuev, probably.

Maybe Maskaev? He doesn't get a lot of love.

And people hate the hell out of Ruiz.

Perhaps Sultan Ibragimov.

 

All good picks, especially Maskaev.

Rahman would be on there too IMO.

Who knows, maybe even Byrd or Sam Peter too.
