    Clubber Lang (slugger) = Margarito
    Rocky (fighter) = Cotto

Fighter Loses First Match To slugger from Lack Of Boxing Skills

Fighter Wins Rematch With new Boxing Skills?

Forgive me.... im watching Rocky 3 as we speak and I noticed some similarities

Cotto lost due to lack of boxing skills? Are you serious man? It's post like that which make me question just how serious to take you. It was his skill that kept him in the fight early and helped him get a quick lead. His skill didn't just disappear, it was beaten out of him my Margarito.

    excuse me...

    not a lack of....
but a brush up and addition of a couple of techniques...

clinching would have helped cotto out a lot in that fight...

dont think he clinched one time..

now that I think of it... maybe cotto could have paced him self better...

    Note:Real life ain't like a Rocky movie.
Cotto doesn't need ''new boxing skills'' to win.He needs better phacesing and the old skills should do.

Pacing one's self is the difficult task fighting against a volume puncher. It's too easy to try and match punch for punch. Cintron fell for it twice. Cotto did that more to keep Margarito off him. And I doubt just clinching will change anything. That takes energy as well to hold onto a stronger guy.

No, I really don't see Cotto beating Margo. Just not the kind of match-up that is going to suit him. That doesn't mean that Cotto isn't a beast, because he is... but I just don't think that he beats Margo.

true..... i think clinching would be less draining then running around in circles though... but i never boxed so

It depends on the energy exerted, or how hard and often he'd have to clinch.

Cotto has no lack of boxing skills although his vunerablity to uppercuts is obvious hes to wide open in the center. What ****ed him up in that fight the most was his constant moving once he legs slowed just a bit he was ****ed Margarito closed the distance easily and raped him. Shane Mosley is going to put the overatted Margarito through hell in a few weeks and Cotto will finish Margarito.

    Margarito just has Cotto's number.

    Simple as that.

I couldn't agree more. If nothing more than to break up Margo's rhythm. I also felt he should have kept the fight more in the middle of the ring.

That is true, from a personal point of view when Im sparring and I get hurt by a shot you clinch to regain and catch a breather here and there, I think Mayweather would have made that his primary tactic if he ever fought Margarito, with if being the key word...
