According to various websites there seems to be little chance in Kelly Pavlik fighting Arthur Abraham. It seems to be a fight that the Pavlik camp want nothing to do with. Granted it is a very dangerous fight and asides Williams the German is the ine man who could dethrone Pavlik.

I'm a big Pavlik fan - I like the fact he's a bit of a throwback to yesteryear but surely if he avoids Abraham his 'legacy' will be severely damaged. Especially if he fights Felix Sturm instead who is the softer option of the two German fighters. It always struck me that Pavlik would fight anyone and avoid no-one. It's obviously not dead in the water but the early signs are not good.

    What do you all think?

I dont think now is a particularly good time for Pavlik to fight Abraham (following the defeat to B-Hop) but the fight should definitely be on the agenda. It would be a great fight, but Abraham's dangerous and I don't think he would be particularly big money in America. Like Calzaghe, the Americans will probably say that he won't leave Europe, when in fact, they don't want to fight him.

Pavlik does need to get his confidence back and a win or two back on his record. It seems to me that if Pavlik beats Rubio he'll go after Williams or Wright and if that can be negotiated it'll be Sturm, or possibly that'll be his two more fights for 09. By the end of 09 I think Abraham will step up to super-middle to take on one of the Euro World champs.

Apparently Jose Suliaman wants all the leading promoters round a table for a meeting in Mar/April. Here's hoping that will be one of the issues discussed. I know fighters have to look after their pockets and families but like the old cliche they wouldn't be where they were if it wasn't for the fans. No fans, no sport.

In a perfect world - negotiating fights would be a doddle.

Nobody in this thread has said Abraham isn't willing to go to the US.

I think we can all agree that Pavlik wouldn't go to Germany, although the fight could be economically justified in either location...

As I said yesterday in the other thread:

Clever move by Kelly's handlers...Arum knows his **** - If not for HBO, who would be able to push Arum to make this fight?
Plus the executives would be still fine with anpther beltholder (Sturm) or a name (Wright or Williams when he will beat Wright).

So Abraham can easily be avoided and Arum has his point when saying that Pavlik is the undisputed champ and don't need no Abraham.

SE needs to negotiate a deal with HBO to show AA on a constant basis in the US/let his fights being staged there - then Abraham may have a point with American fight fans that want him to see vs. Pavlik...

Pavlik is very fortunate that Williams is moving up, if not him, there's no way he could get out of the Abraham fight without the anger of the fans and boxing world.

Pavlik-Abraham is clearly the only MW fight that matters internationally, and HBO is interested in it. But I think they can live with Pavlik vs. the Wright-Williams winner, which is a good fight, we just know it's not the same.

Abraham won't wait for that chin forever, I predict one, maybe 2 fights at MW, maybe failing the make 160 in his last fight in this division.

This kinda **** drives boxing fans nuts year after year... Pavlik wants to be billed as THE middleweight champ, but he won't fight Abraham???

All excuses are bull****! F--- the politics! He should be DEMANDING that fight after Rubio to prove who's the man at 160. Williams or Winky can wait.

    My nightmare scenario:

Pavlik dominates Sturm and HBO/Arum claim that the fight proved that the Germans can't endager Pavlik and a Pavlik-Abraham fight is thus no longer necessary.

And I said if it is to fight Sturm it is a good move for BOTH Pavlik and Abraham because their fight would be for all the marbles and we know Stum won't fight AA. Kelly has stated he wants to unify and I have seen nothing more than 'gossip' about the PW/Winky thing. Arum won't even talk to PW's people after the screwed him the last time this fight was negotiated. If Sturm is finally willing to fight Pavlik, he simply must take this opportunity and we all know it. He has held on to that belt fighting cans way too long.

The fight has to happen the only way it can be avoided is if Abraham moves to Super Middle as it has been said that he is finding in increasingly hard to make weight. I think Pavlik will obviously go for the money fight the winner of Wright - Williams and then if he wins hopefully Abrahams. That said if Winky Wright can get back to anything like his best, he beats them all.

Does anyone remember what happened to Abraham after he had that tough fight with Miranda? That's right, he went on a bum of the month tour. He kept fighting shitty fighters and stayed away from any legit challenges. He even turned down a shot at Jermain Taylor(which is one of the reasons Taylor ended up fighting Spinks). I think it's ironic that Abraham fans are talkng about people being afraid of Abraham when Abraham was scared of his own shaddow for a little while there.
