If someone the size of Joe Louis (6'2" 200 pounds, roughly) had the P4P punching power of Jimmy Wilde, how hard do you think they would be able to hit?

This raises the old question as to what's meant by lb4lb.

Tricky to answer without knowing how hard they actually punched calculated scientifically

Just really we can only speculate what they posossed in poundage terms, its like a math equation, If Jimmy punched every bit his weight, then Joe would put every ounce of his 210 on his punches to be equal to Jimmy in the P4P stakes.........

Probably hard enough to decapitate sombody.

This is a bit like saying that if an ant was as big as a man it coulod lift a car.

About has hard as say, a good light weight to welter weight puncher. Wilde has some impressive KO clips

I think a p4p great puncher hits at 30 pounds above his weight.

If you triple every dimension of a given animal you end up with something that has 27 times its mass but only nine times its strength.

    Its called the cube rule.

So does that rule work with modern boxers too?

    :D

    Absolutely.

It is the reason why Manny Paquiao is the pound for pound No1 and Nicolai Valuev isnt.

So how did Ali, Tyson and co get to P4P number 1 when there were bull ants running around in other divisions that would have decapitated them P4P via the famous cube rule?

I remember it mentioned last time but don't think i ever found it.

My two cents is if Jimmy Wilde is an 8 on a 1-10 scale in hitting power, he should remain the same if envisioned as a heavyweight.

Pound-for-pound to me alludes to the relative abilities of a fighter with respect to his weight class, extrapolated as is when compared to boxers at other categories: pound-for-pound, Rubén Olivares at bantam hits harder than Ron Lyle. And, pound-for-pound, Ali is probably the fastest fighter to enter the ring.

Although there are exceptions you will acknowledge that heavyweights dont fare well on popund for pound lists.
