Why are most boxing undercards so bad?

Also, what are a couple of reasonable matches that could have been made on the ODLH/Pacquiao undercard instead of the crap that we got?

I have heard people who know more about the business side of the sport than me say that the reason why undercards of big fights are usually poor is because of money.

The main headline fighters get paid so much that there isn't much money left to put on a decent undercard with good, well known fighter's. Thats why GBP usually has their prospects fighting as they don't cost much.

Germany puts on some decent undercards.

I personally don't mind if the undercards consist of not very well known fighters or young prospects if the fights are competitive. Its **** though when you get so many mismatches like we did in the Pac-DLH undercard. It was great seeing JML and young up and comers like Ortiz, Garcia and Jacobs but i want to see these guys tested a little.

Gone are the days of a decent undercard it seems.

As a PPV event I remember Sky charging £9.95 for 'Judgement Night Part 2' which included:

    Akinwande - Zolkin
    Moorer - Botha
    Holyfield - Tyson

3 heavyweight title fights in one night......not bad huh?

The German undercards are usually excellent.

The Sky ones are usually pretty good when on PPV, but they shouldn't be on PPV. If they were on free telly, we would all be cancelling our Setanta subscriptions and stop asking for live streams.

because unlike mma quality boxers actually get paid good money and there aint enough of it for big names on the undercard

HBO/ Showtime did research and apparently when most people decide whether or not to buy a PPV the undercard is not much of a consideration, its the main event. So they don't put much money into the undercard, Its a pain in the arse for us boxing fans but thats just the way it is.

Lots of reasons. For one, high profile undercards are used for promotional building of prospects. Those are obviously almost always one sided blowouts. That besides, undercards get used for all sorts of politics along those lines. Promoters are extremely self serving (****s).

Cause the only thing these promoters worry about is making 1 good fight.

    I read this too.

It's too bad. As a boxing fan it makes a difference to me. But I understand that sales are all on the name value of the main event ticket sellers.
