I'm quite new to the boxing scene and i recently got interested in the different trainers out there. Who do you think is the best of these trainers? Why do you think they are great and what sets them apart. Which style do you like best? Discuss..
What sets him apart from all the rest? What do you like about Floyd Sr? His ability to teach awesome defensive capabilities and fight strategy? Or something else?
The late great Eddie Futch was the greatest trainer of all time imho. Check him out if you are interested in trainers. As far as your list goes, I like Steward. But I also think that you left out some great trainers like Tommy Brooks, Ronnie Shields, Thel Torrence, etc.
No german trainers in the poll? Trainers like Fritz Sdunek and Uli Wegener formed as many champs if not more...
Forgot about them. Two fine trainers themselves. Yeah, it's like I said, a lot of good trainers missing from this poll. Others that could be argued for: Buddy McGirt (I don't care what others say, he has done some good work in the past, if not recently), Teddy Atlas, Angelo Dundee (If you can count him, but I think he is only part of advisory teams these days), Richie Giachettie(If still training. Last I heard he was working with Steve Cunningham, but not sure if that team is still intact.), etc.
There are lots of great trainers. Just because a man is famous doesn't make him any better than anybody else. It just means that he was luckier at finding kids who have world class talent.
Thank you for that input, please everyone feel free to include your favorites if I missed them and I am sure to check out Eddie Futch and his work. :thumbsup My main interest however is what sets these trainers apart from others. I'm sure luck to find the talented kids is a factor, but i imagine there's something about the greats that sets them apart from the others, what do you think that is for your favorite trainers?
No problem sir, always happy to spread the good word about Eddie Futch. The man was a tactical genious. The second a flaw was exposed in his fighters opponent, only the trained eye of Eddie Futch could pick up on it, and he knew exactly how to exploit it. He trained so many great champions, including one of my favorite fighters, Riddick Bowe (guy in my avatar) who so aptly nicknamed Futch "Papa Smurf"
Brendan Ingle is/was an excellent trainer. We have some great up and coming trainers in the UK.... you will hear about those in the future. I do feel sorry for Buddy McGirt, amount of **** he cops on this (and other) forum.
Bouie Fischer who taught Hopkins & Toney's original trainer I think the last name is Miller are two great teachers. As well as Gil Clanceys work with Grifith & Valdez whom he both took from the beginning.
