    Hello, goons! :hi:

I've been reading so much about how Mayweather is so tough to beat ever since I joined ESB. I don't post much, but I read a lot. So no need to point and say "newbie". :patsch

Anyway, Mayweather has undeniable skill. I'm not a fan of him for many reasons, but that's the topic of another discussion. I definitely admire his boxing skills I would like to know what fellow enthusiasts think.

    How does one defeat Mayweather?

So far, we see that it's tough just trying to go all out and hope that something lands. Castillo did well, though Mayweather still won. Same with Chico.

So does one just have to have a style like his? Spinks comes to mind. Vernon Forrest, Collazo, etc.

Serious responses please. Though the occasional rant/rave is definitely welcome! :thumbsup

you need to have seriously good footwork, be able to land big punches with both hands, keep the fight out of the middle of the ring and work his body constantly like castillo. pacquiao, i believe, would have relative success against mayweather, but he could equally be picked off as his defence is the weakest part of his game.

knocking floyd out is out of the question, but looking at the first castillo fight is the blueprint. thing is, castillo was a special fighter in his prime at the time. having a good chin, lateral movement as well to cut the ring off to catch floyd going back or running, a jab, constant pressure especially to the body. i think cotto had a better chance than beating floyd than margo did, but i have yet to see margo cut the ring off. he is equally effective with both hands and with his reach can catch floyd moving back or land uppercuts. the jab, acting as bait to make floyd counter, and timing him with an uppercut. a high guard, since he's more of a headhunter, jab, and bodyattack and then going upstairs when he's in range imo

At Lightweight, you have got to have an "animal" in there with him like Duran, J.C. Chavez, Arquello, or Henry armstrong.

Get in a boxing match with him you are in trouble.

You have to get someone whose bigger than him. This person must drain themselves to make weight, and then put on like 17+ pounds over nite. No one Mayweather's size or exactly at 147 will beat him.

    Whittaker, Tyszu, Trinidad, Pryor.

Theres plenty of people that could do it, of course it could go either way

The way to beat Mayweather is you need to get him in there with a guy who can beat him, not some cherry picked pansey who is either too old or too green.

How I would say you beat Floyd is you need a guy who can take a shot, a guy who has a good work rate not really a high one but a good work rate, who can pressure Floyd and take advantage of Floyds mistakes.

The left hand down low is the key, and Floyd laying on the ropes is all you need to win, if you have the perfect guy style wise to beat Floyd I would say either Margarito or Paul williams.

Paul just has that size and the south paw style that will give Floyd fits, Paul just needs to fight like Lennox Lewis and the fight is his no way will Floyd get inside and become a fighter he will try to out box paul and Paul with his size and work rate and chin he has this fight easy.

Margarito on the other hand wont have an easier fight than paul. Tony is going to have to work, Floyd will try to move, and Tony has only one style to come forward, when Margarito does get Floyd on the ropes that is where he has to let his hands go, also the left hand low were talking about, a simple pivot over to his right followed with a left hook right hand will work, so will the left upper cut.

The body work will be the key for Tony to win, he will have to invest there early and often and he will, mid way in the fight, you will see a more stationary Mayweather and Tony will get off bigger shots and do more damage from there on its a matter of how Floyd wants to go out, either quit fighting and look to survivie or try to fight your way out and get brutally stopped.

I dont see Floyd beating neither Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito both styles are able to beat Floyd and IMO both will if they ever get a crack.

    - A Prime Ike Quartey jab
    - Manny Pacquiao's stamina
    - Antonio Margarito's workrate
    - Librado Andrade's chin
    - Prime Roy Jones' reflexes
    AND....
    - Meldrick Taylor's handspeed !

That should be able to do it...

Close in fighter with almost the same speed and strong punch. Floyd is slippery and will just move around if you opt to box.

Movement. Both of head and foot. An ability to apply pressure but not rush in and an ability to fight in close by picking shots without looking foolish just hitting his gloves and arms. I feel movement's the key though which is why I'd give Cotto and Pacquiao a better chance against him than Margarito. I still think he'd defeat Williams despite what quite a few have said.

If you can miniaturize Roy Jones Jr...then yea...I'd say a Roy Jones type would do it. Someone equally if not faster in handspeed, power in both hands, and great footwork and reflexs...Floyd wouldn't expect someone to try and outbox Floyd.

People have the misconception that pressure is key because of the Castillo fight, but forget he fought injured. All the pressure fighters he faced either were KO'd or brought to a comfortable UD.

    Hernandez
    Chavez
    Castillo
    Hatton
De La Hoya (the man abandoned his jab because he thought pressure would do it)
    Corrales

All of 'em thought pressure would do it.

But the real blueprint lies within the Zab Judah and De La Hoya fight. If you effectively box Floyd with the right speed and controlled aggression. You will see a overly cautious Floyd and one who is trying to adapt to your style, but if you can just keep your kool and not try to continue with your plan then you can see Floyd lose for the very first time

Which also means you would have to come up with SEVERAL gameplans, because Floyd is known to change his style to beat you. Which means you would have to change your own gameplan to throw off his new gameplan.

I personally feel if you can blow up Yuri Gamboa or miniaturize Roy Jones Jr. or bring back Pernell Whitaker, Floyd would lose hands down.
