Many posters have compared these two in style. Now it's time to see who would have actually won in a head to head fight. 15 rounds. Frazier who just defeated Ali in '71. Against Iron Mike which just demolished Spinks in one round.

That's easy to say GPater, but what happens if Frazier pressures Tyson, keeps up his head movement doesn't get tagged and gets him on the ropes for sustained periods?

Whoever is the main aggressor here has a great opportunity to win the fight. If it's Tyson, he steps Frazier within 4 rounds, if it's Joe, he might be able to outwork Mike and take a decision, or stop him late.

I would edge towards Tyson though.

Joe Frazier is one of my favourites in the ring and so is Tyson. This one is hard. If I remember everything right frazier was a slow starter and that could be dangerous against Tyson. But I want to say Frazier with my heart he feels heavier but the more I think about it i have to say Tyson even if my heart screams Frazier!:patsch
    this gives me a headache!
Tyson, I have to say Tyson, no, I change my mind, I say Frazier. A draw would be the best.

Agreed only Tyson does him in 1 round.

It is inevitable that these two men will meet in the center of the ring and throw big shots early. Under those circumstances, Tyson has to be made the favorite. Frazier had decent power but mainly the kind that wore fighters down over time, whereas Tyson had one punch knockout ability. Neither man had what I would call a stelar chin, but I think Mike at least survived the power of Razor Ruddock, Frank Bruno and James Smith. Frazier never really fought any serious punchers except for Foreman who killed him, and was floored by Oscar Bonavena. This one's over fast.

TommyV it is easy to say but Frazier always was a slow starter and the fact that tyson was abit stronger and hit harder and started quicker swings it his way

I think that the only edges that frazier had on tyson were heart and stamina, and in my opinion I don't feel that this would be enough to beat tyson. These might come into play if the fight went past the 7th round, but I feel that it's very unlikely that joe could withstand tyson's onslaught for that long. I look at the fact that frazier was a slow starter and that tyson, while still dangerous at the later rounds, was more so earlier on. Oscar bonavena floored frazier twice and while tough, was nowhere near what tyson was. I just cannot see frazier being able to take tysons brutal uppercuts and hooks. Also , they were about the same height so I doubt that frazier would be able to consistently get under tysons punches.

Fraziers heart and style would be prove to be his undoing: Tyson by ko in 4.

    Agreed,

His bobing and weaving would actually work to his disadvantage, as he would likely be catching hooks and uppercuts everytime he lowered his center of gravity. This is a mismatch.

Frazier's head movement wasn't good enough to avoid prime Tyson's best shots and he was only effective coming forward. Frazier is a hell of a fighter, but with his slow starts, lack of one-punch power, and tank style, he is tailor-made for a speedy and devastating puncher like Tyson.

Wow! Absolutely no love for Joe Frazier in this thread so far. Seems like a pretty easy Tyson victory? I certainly think not!

I highly doubt Tyson would have been able to withstand the pressure that a prime 1967 -1970 Joe Frazier would put on him. Evander Holyfield a natural cruiserweight is no Joe Frazier and he pressured and backed up Tyson, although there were some iilegal moments with his head.

I'll will say that Tyson has the potential to have Joe in trouble early because history has proven Frazier to be more vulnerable in the early rounds. Regardless, it wouldn't be enough against a prime Joe Frazier, and I'd bet on him to KO Tyson inside 10 rounds. Mike Tyson would be on the receiving end of more body shots than he's ever faced.

Evander was stronger than Frazier.Evanders power isnt what beat Mike,He was muscling him all over the place.Manhandling Tyson in clinches, putting him where he wanted n broke him down.Mike stops Frazier early. Not to mention Holy's chin was granite.Fraziers was good but not on the Holyfield level

Joe wouldn't be afraid of Mike. Even if Mike did floor Frazier in the early rounds (which is a good possiblity) Frazier would keep getting up and stay in Tyson's face, which might discourage him. I'd give it to Frazier in the end. But you never know, though.

Holyfield, a former CW or not was one of the strongest fighters to lace them up and simply looking at his body against Tyson attested to that.

Plus Joe was basically a CW as well, they just didn't have the division back then.

This would be a great fight. I'm going with a controversial decision where the winner is determined based on how you score a fight. There will be no losers here.

Tyson was a game fighter so long as you didn't do the 2 O's on him: outbox or outmaneuver. Frazier will do neither and instead will brawl it out. Frazier had the toughness and the heart to go toe to toe with Tyson. Result? 12 rounds of exciting boxing.

Tyson rocks Joe on several occasions each round. He uses his quicker hands and his greater variety of punches to beat Joe to the punch or counter him. Joe Frazier is by far the busier one and the superior inside fighter. At the end of 12 rounds Joe has landed more punches with his body work while Tyson has landed *far* less punches but he gets a greater share of the "spectacular" punches & rocking moments. Rounds 9-12 will be in Joe's favor whereas rounds 1-5 will be in Tyson's favor. 6-8 are going to be a pick' em.

Objectively, I'd give a close decision to Joe on the basis of more punches landed whereas Tyson fans would definitely have a case to say otherwise. The highlight reels and still photos would make Tyson look better. Great fight. The ending would bias the fans because Joe would be Smokin' whereas Tyson would not have improved (but this isn't to say he'd have worsened). A great ending is nice but you have to consider the entire fight. Sure, either fighter can knock out the other but both were TOUGH SOBs and I'd put my money on decision instead.
