I've been think about this fight since watching the Thrilla in Manilla documentry having noticed how small Frazier looked.

I used to think Ali would beat Marciano in a one sided 15 round UD, but now I have changed my mind.

I have changed my opinion in part due to how a washed up Joe Fraizer almost killed Ali. In my opinion Frazier was not a great heavyweight by any means. His record was 32 - 4 - 1 not great. People will say "oh but Joe fought in the golden age" and all that bull**** but how many fighters have been so resoundingly beaten like he was against Foreman twice and still been considered great. He took 2 one sided beatings - no lucky punches - just beatings. With the exception of Ali and Foreman there really is not many names oh his record that where much good. How many times was he dropped - someone tell me I read once it was 14 or 16.

To my mind Marciano was like Frazier only better and this is how I see a fight with Ali panning out.

Rounds 1 - 6 Ali would take all of them and probably knock down Marciano once or maybe twice. But from the 5th onwards Marciano would start to get inside and hit anything - Ali's Arms, Kidney's, back of the head, he would probably throw in some butts and elbows for good measure earning him a point deduction.
However rounds 6-12 would be pretty even with Ali feeling the effects of Marciano's non-stop punching. From here Marciano would know he had to KO Ali and I believe he would come through late at grind down Ali in round 14 or 15.

    Here are a few other reasons;

If Henry Cooper could really hurt Ali (virtually Ko him) so could Rocky.

Marciano had the best stamina and will to win of any heavyweight - his record speaks for it's self. When he needed a late KO he got it.

Marciano was one of the biggest punching heavyweights (before the 90's super heavyweights came along),he also through loads of punches for 15 rounds non-stop.

Marciano did not cut as bad as people think he was no Cooper - though cuts could have been a problem in this fight, they never caused him to lose in his career.

Archie Moore said Rocky would beat Ali and he is perhaps the best person to judge.

Lets here your opinions on this one.

to be fair i think ali was abit green when cooper hurt him.

Ali has a great chin and took shots from Foreman, Shavers, Norton, Frazier, Liston etc...

i dont see no KO's for anyone but i think Alis slashing punches would cut up Rocky bad i see Ali winning a close UD by about 3 rounds

Green or not he got caught and dropped - plus Frazier dropped him twice, one was ruled a slip but it was a KD.

I stopped reading when you said Joe Frazier wasn't a great heavyweight, and started going on about his record.

I bet you think Sugar Ray Robinson wasn't a great either because he lost 19 fights, or Sam Langford because he lost nearly 50.

Ali too fast, too mobile for marciano. He could dance for the whole fight (in his prime) and rocky was slow of foot. While marciano had great punching power it woudn't really be a factor because he wouldn't be able to land consistently enough to have any real affect. Rockys pressure wouldn't faze ali much because he was in such great condition. Also, Ali had a great chin and recouperative powers and would shake off whatever did connect.

Other factors against marciano is ali's handspeed and combination punchimg, body toughness and ring intelligence. Also to be considered is rockys tendency to cut and ali's ripping punches. Marciano would hang tough before being stopped on cuts or accumulation of punches.

Can you please tell me how you come to the conclusion that Joe Frazier is not a great heavyweight fighter, considering he beat Ali once, might of edged the trilogy when thought to be shot in the third fight, and lost only 4 times, to the best heavyweight the world has ever seen and a top 10 fighter of all-time, and a beast of a heavyweight who had a style to beat him and is a top 8 heavyweight of all-time. Also that he became the champion in such a tough period, the best heavyweight era of all-time, and also beat a host of solid contenders such as Bob Foster, Oscar Bonavena, Buster Mathis, Jimmy Ellis, George Chuvalo, Jerry Quarry and Joe Bugner.

Ali would need to be in peak form, as Marciano would be a challenge like no other. Rocco's all-out relentless assault was completely on another level, and he just may have what it takes to wear Cassius down. Nevertheless, Mr. Clay had the talent to deal with this kind of opponent. He could always find ways to adapt, and while this one would go the distance or damn near it, I think Ali can edge this one-barely.

I see it one of thsos 50's 50's type of fights, both were willing to die to get that victory, and this is the type of fight on who wants it most and who can impose who's style on each other. either way its bound to be a great fight.

I certainly don't see Marciano as a better version of Frazier, probably a bit more limited in fact given his lack of speed and explosiveness in comparison.

Prime for prime, Ali wins it. Too gifted, too slick, too great. On his toes, floating to a UD. :good

You guys are writting Marciano off. Marciano was great at what he does, and thats cutting off the ring and pounded you to mush. Marciano has fought slick fighters like Walcott and Charles, and Marciano still got at em. Most evey one Marciano fought, was faster than the Rock but Marciano knew how to get around that with his leveage and non stop attack, and of couse trapping people on the ropes. Marciano WILL get in is licks. And vice vesa, Ali is not going to walk out there and out jab Marciano for 15 rounds for a easy points victory. Not even Walcott did that. Walcott had a close eye and cut in the first fight. It was also a close fight.

Frazier was better than Marciano. Practically nothing you just said made any sense at all.
