Why does Floyd have to fit the model of a 'warrior' or gladiator?

Where's the pride in being beaten up for money? This is PROFESSIONAL boxing, not a tough-man contest. Floyd has been boxing his entire life, maybe he'd rather do other things with his future. He sees boxing as an opportunity to make money to pursue his other interests. He owes nothing to anyone but himself.

That might make him less of a 'warrior' to keyboard tough guys like you, but it doesn't make him any less of a human being or athlete. This isn't Rocky, there's no glamour in having the **** kicked out of you when you can just as easily win your bouts WITHOUT being hit.

That said, he has taken many tough fights and taken solid shots on the chin, and come back to win each time, usually in dominant fashion. Nothing cowardly about that.

Oh absolutely. But if he decides to return to welterweight its not unfair for people to want him to fight the man at welterweight right now.

It would be fair. But PBF has made it clear that he's in it for the fights that bring him the most money.

That's how they get you lol. Think of it this way: if you bet Mosley +400 5 times, you'd have to win once to break even. What's the most likely scenario?

    A) You bet 5 times, all 5 lose. -500
    B) You bet 5 times, win once, lose four times. -400 and +400. Push.
    C) You bet 5 times, Mosley wins 2 or more times, you profit.

That's the thing with big odds, they're tempting, but if they're almost certainly going to lose, it's a bad idea to take the bet. If you played 11 +1000 dogs at 100$ each, most likely you'd lose all 11 times. You'd have to win 1 just to break even. 2 to make it profitable. I don't know what the odds are of 2 +1000 dogs winning, but it's not good!

That's fair, but Floyd is a part-time boxer now, like De La Hoya. He doesn't fight for legacy or pride, but money.

Still, his ego might be fragile to the point that enough public criticism brings him back. He beats Margo/Cotto easily imo, Williams would trouble him moreso, providing he makes 147 comfortably, which isn't a guarantee. I don't think either of those three can offer the purse of a Hatton or Pacquiao.

And that attitude is fine and understandable.

But then don't (Floyd) bang on about how he's the best fighter there is, when he won't fight the best opposition.

You want to make multi millions fighting exhibition matches? Can't say I blame him. But make it clear he's actually got no interest in competing to be the best.

Not such appealing fights to watch now are they?
