i thought bruno made the most of what he had. bruno was a strictly boxing by numbers fighter, taught straight from the book and not flexible enough to really do anything else. because of his bulk and size had a ramrod , good jab,and it was hard to walk through him , but all his muscles burnt up so much energy, he had nothing left for championship rounds. his jab was much more effective than any other punch in his reportoire and it won him a world title .
thats a disapointment, i must have told myself it was a british title fight and made myself beleive it all these years. was it herol graham the champ at the time? i remember going to kaylor v graham on a cold night at wembley with a **** undercard (mcdonall fighting someone with a 2 foot afro) and graham boxing kaylors ears off. as the years go by i remember the fights but not the order or sometimes what they were for.
Agree with alot of your points, but strongly disagree about him making the most of what he had. If he'd have possessed more mental strength and been a bit more ruthless, I believe he could've been a legitimate Heavyweight Champ.
mental strength , definatley a part of boxing and in the second tyson fight bruno clearly did not have it. i stand corrected. my point was more he was not a natural boxer , but one who had to be taught every facet of the game and stuck to his basic bread and butter punches he was comfertable with.
yep , i remember honeyghan walking walking round in a full length coat that looked like it had just come off a grizzly bear at that fight and he was grinning ear to ear, might have been around the time he beat curry. boxing was better because we had more rivals willing to fight each other and more promoters willing to match there fighters. warren was around but i cannot remember who he was promoting at the time .
Has to be big Audrey for me. Such a waste! Just shows that you need killer instinct and balls as well as the physical and technical attributes
That is a brilliant choice. I was thinking of Hamed but Laing beats him easy .... Laing was a sensational fighter who had everything but his attitude stunk, an unbelievable waste of a great talent. Herol Graham wasnt a wasted talent, hes recognised as a great fighter who came up short at world level. He didnt have a great punch to really make the difference in a fight and he fell short in world title fights but i dont think he wasted his talent. Howard Eastman was a good fighter but not sensational, his lazy attitude did destroy him against Hopkins, he could of won that fight with a different mentality
Audley was never that talented .. He had a few shots but i think people expected more of him because they thought 'this is the weakest heavyweight division in history, any big tall guy could be champ' .. Laing and Hamed were truly world talents who didnt have the dedication and mental strength to fulfill they're legacy
yeah he defineatly under-achieved, one tough *******. unfortuneatly he was more interested in the darker parts of life and loved the gangster lifestyle.
Cheeky Beeston. Happy New Year Brother. I must admit I was waiting for you to come out with a comment like that. Ajose will never be viewed as a wasted talent because those of us around him will ensure that he maximises his talent and he is so dedicated and hungry that such will not be the case. Tough one this. I think the tragic Michael Watson should have achieved more and also Richard Williams. Howard Eastman should have won thee world title it was right there for him against Joppy but he could not take. I think he had all the skills but ultimately lacked the know how and was used to operating in the comfort zone.
