ok, one win does'nt necessarily make a career. but if hatton were to win against pac, would he eclipse calzaghe's achievements?

that would give him a win over an ATG in the prime of his career, who happens to be the consensus p4p #1. in addition to a win over a (then) top 10 p4p fighter in tszyu.

i'm not a fan of either guy, but i would be interested in opinions.

    Tough one......

Calzaghe cleaned out his division, whereas Hatton was well on the way before the last two guys moved up to welter.....

Hatton has the win over Tszyu which isn't quite as good as the win over Hopkins (IMO)..... but a Pacquiao win beats both.

nope. jmm and joe c will still be above him. and honestly i can still rank pac higher that hatton even if hatton beats him. in p4p sense.

but if you're asking all-time h2h against joe, i'd still lean towards joe but only by a little

    nah it wouldnt

but between the both of them the paqiou win would be bigger than anything calzaghe ever done...

I bet if hatton win's joe might feel pressure to face chad or glen

nah you couldnt move him over joe.
joe should be no2 above jmm now, but i wouldnt be surprised if ring mag put hatton above him because they are a strange system compared to most other p4p rankers who already have joe no2 as it should be.

I don't think the thread starter means current P4P rankings - more their career accomplishments.

yep this is what i meant. i should have made the question clearer.

NOT current p4p rankings, but in their all time rankings i.e: the list of greatest british fighters etc..... but i appreciate the comments so far.

i'm inclined to agree. a possible pac win, would be the biggest win on either fighters record.

If Ricky beats Pac, then IMO he has 2 better wins than anything on Joe's resume (the Hopkins that Cal beat was as good a fighter as the Tszyu that Hatton beat, but Hatton's performance on the night was so much better than Calzaghe's that it makes it a clearly better win I think). That means his claim to be the greater fighter in terms of accomplishment deserves serious consideration. If he can then unify lww, I'd say Hatton.

BUT, I don't think he will beat Pac, so I think Calzaghe will remain the greater of the two.

Close, he would have the better name on his resume, but I still beleive Calzaghe to be a better boxer than him regardless.

i think the fact that joe is undefeated is his edge and even if pac losses to hatton, pac is still the smaller man and he came up to hatton's normal weight so that kind of diminishes that a bit. but i agree that a win over pac is bigger than any of joe's wins

If Ricky wins that puts him above Marquez. If Pac-Man loses he loses the pound 4 pound 1# ranking no way can you be the best fighter in the world straight after a loss.So that puts Calzaghe in the frame, unless he retires. If he fights Dawson and wins there is no doubt he's 1#
So Hatton wins he's 3# Pac-Man 2# Calzaghe 1# if the above happens

Of course you can still be the best fighter in the world after a loss, so the best fighter in the world can not lose? Rubbish, especially if it isn't even at his best weight.

If Hatton wins, the fact that Joe is undefeated and Ricky isn't doesn't mean ****. Ricky had the balls to chase a fight with prime Mayweather, it's no reflection on how good a lww he is that he lost to an ATG at ww. Joe never had the balls to chase a fight with prime Jones at lhw - that should not be a point in his favour.

Nope Pac-Man would have to prove himself as No 1# if he loses to Hatton, weights not in question as he's fought at that weight already and was great.

It doesn't sound right really "I lost to him but I'm the best fighter in the world!"
