Tucker was competitive though against a young ,hungry Tyson , who Tua is pretty much a poor-man's version of.
Competitive for a few rounds you mean? No stoppage but Tua at his best outpoints him (obviously not as lopsidedly as Tyson did).
I've more respect for the likes of Tubb's, who whilst getting bombed out in a few rounds actually tried to leand some shots and stood his ground. It's easy to be cautious and negative your way to a decisive points loss.
I think Tua was definately the better fighter. But Tucker's height advantage along with his play it safe survival strategies might lead to a decision. My guess is that this is not a very exciting fight.
I think that tucker had the tools to beat tua but he didn't make the best use of them. He had a sturdy chin, good height and weight, was strong and was a pretty decent boxer. What he lacked, however, was real fighting determination, and he just didn't do enough, often being lazy. While tua was no marciano in terms of fighting heart, he had more than tuker. I believe that he would be the more active of the two, with tucker figting a more defensive fight, often moving and holding. Tucker would land a few hard punches here and there, but being outworked overall. My pick is tua by decision in a lackluster performance.
if he dident have marciano's fighting heart, he was certainly close. tua never stops swinging and i remember him knocking guys out on their feet late many times.
He kept an 80s Tyson off for 12 rounds I'll go with Tucker UD. Tua strugged mightily against any contender he faced with height and a jab. Tuckers chin would ensure that he wouldn't get blasted out by a single hook.
Correctemundo. Stick a jab into Tua's face and he is done. Fu''in Rahman made him look like a fool and got a gift from the ref with the late punch. Tucker actually picked up a ABC belt something Tua was never able to do........the same Tucker who years later with plenty of blow on his mind fought Lemmie not much worse than the guy with the bad haircut did.
The Tucker with the Jherri Curl would probably be able to beat Tua on a decision, that Tucker was more mobile and in shape, and Tony was a better boxer back then. The 90's Tucker would lose to David, either by SD, or late round stoppage.
tony tucker was tall and fast and his best favourite punch was a long jab to box and he was a good clincher with his long reach and tua could not win when someone had good height good jab and good chin good clinching
