I think at some point, the tougher and more resilient Lopez breaks through McGuigan's guard with that big right hand of his and stops him.

Could probably go either way though.

well as much of a brawler mcgugian was ...i dont think he could get to the much leaner lopez... lopez was ungodly tall for a feather weight ..something like 5'11... and i just see that brutal lazer right just busting right through mcgugians gaurd.. mc might have an awesome or two round but i dont see him doing much for lopez

Danny flattens Barry by the midway point. To beat Danny you had to give him angles and lots of lateral movement and stay on your bycicle and counterpunch him, if you employed that strategy you had a shot at besting Danny on points. But Barry, he will be coming forward looking to get his shots in on his taller, rangier foe in Lopez and anyone and I do mean ANYONE who walks right into Danny looking for a shootout is gonna get their clock cleaned, period. McGuigan was a fine fighter but Danny is all wrong for him, unless Barry suddenly turns into a cautious boxer he gets laid out for the count within 8 rounds by one of them atomic right hands from Danny.

Good post! Going to war against a guy who was once accused of planning his KO's from the seat of his pants is a very BAD idea.

Indeed, taking on a banger like Danny head-on is a recipe for disaster for anyone, I don`t care if you have a good chin or not if a guy like Danny keeps chopping away at it eventually it will shatter. Barry`s pressure and relentless attack will bother Danny some especially in the first few rounds as Danny needed a few rounds to really warm up to the task and get the sweat going, but once Danny settles into his groove Barry is toast.

Anyone who walks straight into Danny is as good as dead imho, and Barry is gonna get knocked back to kindergarten at some point in the fight, its only a matter of time and frankly I would not be shocked in the least if this fight ended within the first two/three rounds either, Barry walking into a huge punch early and getting knocked out is not at all unlikely imo.

That's why I brought up the Malvarez fight. Danny lost the 1st round 10-8, and he was well on his way to losing the 2nd round when BANG! Fight over.

I remember that the Big Book of Boxing did this match-up, and had Battling Barry winning by 7th or 8th round KO. In that fight, McGuigan scored an early Kd, then began to ship considerable punishment in the middle rounds before storming back to score the stoppage.

And, though I think Lopez may have been the greater featherweight, I think that this might be a possibility. Barry wasn't completely devoid of skill, and did show good powers of resilience after being stung a few times by Pedroza. Plus, if this fight's held in Ireland, then the support that barry receives might just spur him on to exceed his limitations and produce the type of effort needed to defeat Little Red.

Still, I could see a Lopez victory just as easily in this fight...it would just have to come later in the contest methinks, after both fighters had visisted the canvas a couple of times.

Lopez by ko. barry would be too brave for his own good, and lopez would take big advantage of this.

This the only post I can recall on ESB that picks Mcguigan in a mythical matchup. Barry seems to me a little under appreciated here. Maybee because he was overhyped back in the day?
