No doubt both guys would be on the deck and the fight would end in a K.O. Naz had a great chin but Lopez is one of the few FW's in history that could hurt him. What do you guys think? Who wins this war of attrition? I'm going for Naz via K.O within three rounds.
Any thoughts guys? Seeing as Lopez is respected by many on here as one of the hardest FW punchers in history and Naz is like marmite (to our American posters, means you either love him or hate him) I'm interested to see how people think this would go. It would definitely be exciting, and it definitely wouldn't last long.
Hamed would have decked Lopez in the first, and maybe even the second rounds and would have looked for all the world like an emminent ko winner until one Lopez right hand lands in the 3rd, and knocks the Prince cold, and I mean Juan Malvarez cold!!
decent analysis, as I say anything is possible in this fight. I think the power edge lies slightly with the Prince and his awkwardness would take Danny out, but in terms of other FW's who could genuinely hurt Naz (who as you'll know was decked many times due to being off balance rather than being hurt) Lopez is one of the few who could stop him. As I say, I think Naz's chin, slight edge in power (only my opinion from what I've seen of both fighters, which is basically everything available of them) and his style would give him the win, no doubt it'd be over very quickly (wouldn't be surprised if it only lasted a round) but I'd go for Hamed. Both have the power to knock each other out cold, with Lopez being stopped himself (admittedly he faced some very good fighters, and two of the stoppages came from Salvador Sanchez and one after a 12 year hiatus) I'd say he has the better chance of being K.O'd. Intriguing fight nonetheless, if Kelley-Hamed wasn't the Hagler-Hearns of the FW division this fight would most definitely have been!!!
I wouldn't say that Naz had a better chin. Lopez did get knocked down but he used to get up and that's when he was at his most dangerous. Lopez had enough power to knock out anyone he hit and Naz could be tagged. Naz could box, but so could Lopez. Naz definitely could bang, certainly hard enough to stop Lopez. Like i said, I can't pick it. Over 3 fights possibly 2-1. Good as Naz was I was never convinced about the quality of his opponents. Not that they weren't good fighters but that he fought them at the right time. Early in his career I never fancied his chances against Barrera because he had a lot of flaws in his style, chin up in the air being the most obvious.. What it comes down to is that I never saw Hamed get hit by someone like Lopez.
His style could cause just as many problems for him as it could his opponent, and I wouldn't say his chin was better by any stretch of the imagination. I do think his unorthodox style would work in his favor early on here, as he'd likely catch the open Lopez off guard a few times, hurting him in the process. I'd be more confident in a Lopez stoppage outright though, even if Hamed manages to hurt him first, as Lopez was at his most dangerous in those situations.
Sweet Pea I know what you're saying; Lopez is like Nigel Benn, at his most dangerous when hurt, and no doubt Naz could hurt him. Thanks for your responses thus far guys.
I dont mind marmite..i dont love it but i dont hate it..maybe Im an exception to the rule because I feel that way about Naz aswell.
Not to much more to add...Could end early for both, I would lean towards Naz winning by this method but Danny could take a licking and come back harder then ever. If I had to choose someone it would be Lil Red, I think he stops Naz down the track..Though its hard to picture someone finishing off Hamed, Danny just hit so hard I think at the very least Naz is ultra quiet for the rest of the night after getting hurt by Lopez, whereas that would not be the same for Danny.
The post 99 Hamed struggles more in this one or against anyone else for that matter. Anyone who knows Hamed's style well, will know why.
