Dude, there's people around here who want to put him in the top five all time, when he faced older versions of the best fighters in his era, and got taken out early by second raters.:patsch

Lewis isn't even the best HW of his era, let alone top five, or even top ten! People act like this can't even be debated - THAT'S what's "disgusting."

No, of course not. I rate Lewis as the third best fighter of the post-Holmes era, behind Holyfield and Tyson. I place him at about 12-13 all-time.

    He was high on medication.

Lewis had it in the contract that Mike had to take the anger suppressent medication that he was on at the time.

I dont think Mike looked afraid just spaced out at times and very calm, too calm for the biggest fight he had had in a long time.

But Tyson was 25% of what he was in his prime.

    what a crock of ****.

lewis was wasn't scared in the slightest. he dismantled tyson bit by bit till the time was right to rip his head off his shoulders.

yes steward wanted the job finishing a couple of rounds earlier but lewis was enjoying torturing tyson for the **** that had been done / said before that fight. it was a great performance from lewis. tyson was obviously past his peak but there were still many respected people who tipped tyson to win this fight.

with regards to the original question i do think there was a degree of fear in tyson before that fight.

tyson had done nothing but bad mouth / insult lewis, bitten him at the press conference and lewis was not intimidated one bit. when the ring announcements are over, there are only 3 people left in that ring and its a lonely place. tyson knew what was coming his way when that bell rang and he deserved every last punch of that beating he took from lewis for his outrageous behaviour.

the only positive i can draw that night about tyson was that he took his beating like a man. i wonder if he was squealing like tyrell biggs when lewis was ripping in those uppercuts?

He dumped the title to go after Holyfield for the $$$$$$!

If its ok for Lewis to not fight Byrd because it wasnt economically viable or Saint Lewis decided he wasnt worthy whilst Kirk Johnson was:-( then Tyson should be treated the same.

I think you will find it was Lewis who started the insulting of Tyson.

Continuously calling him a circus act when Mike Tyson did more for the sport of boxing in 5 years than Lennox Lewis did over a decade, get it right whether you like Tyson or not there is no need to make bollocks up because of your love of Lewis.

Lewis took Tyson to court and stopped a warm up fight against Mercer. Thios means Tyson had had 1 fight in 2 years, Tyson was rusty and he came in at 16,8 (232lbs) 10 pounds heavier than his prime weight. This wasnt a 50% Tyson who Lewis fought. Lewis made sure he had every advantage in this fight.

Even Tyson said he was done by round 4 and if Lewis was half the fighter people say he is then he should have gotten him out of there then.

That wasn't ok either. Lewis effectively sold his ibf belt for a cool $1m to DK. I'm suprised there wasn't more of a stink after the way they didn't even try to hide it.

I don't think Tyson's ever been easy to get out. Lewis did say in one of the rounds, cant' remember which, he hurt his right hand to the point that he could barely use it, and it took him a round or two to adjust for the pain. In this interview he said there really was no point telling Manny about it as he was screaming at him to get Tyson the Fu*k out of there.

Yeah i would have to agree with your whole statement especially the part where i underlined. I think Rock Newman just wanted to build the fight up more by doing that whole "Garbage picker" routine.

What Rock must not have expected was that Lewis would get KO'd by Mccall and never got that big payday!

Tyson will be more glorified in years to come. Think about it, When people think of dream matches with Ali, who do they think of?

Look at the trailer for Fight Night round 4. You can even look at the entrance of Vitali for the Sam peter fight, Tyson got the most cheers when he came on the screen even though he looked and sounded like he did not care!
