This was extremely close & either man would be the right choice.

Floyd had his Castillo, Jones had his Griffin & Pea had Ramirez... all 3 were defeated easily in rematches but Pea & RJJ have the edge there as Pea was robbed & Roy was on the way to a KO victory before being DQd.

As far as their best performances, they have all given me ATG performances that I will never forget.... FMJ/Gatti... Pea/Ramirez II... RJJ/Toney. I cant split any of those outstanding efforts.

All are 4/5 weight world champions.

They were all ATGs at a specific weight.... FMJ at 130, Pea at 135... Roy at 168.
135 has the deeper history so edge to Whitaker there.
I also think Whitaker was more willing to face the best than FMJ & RJJ the more I think about & since I find it too hard to split them in the mannor the thread title suggests, these other edges in Pea`s favour will have to do to swing things in his favour.

    I go with Whitaker.... narrowly.

Good post, but I really don't understand you singling out PBF's win over Gatti. That was an embarrassing mismatch from the day and hour it was announced. Sure PBF whipped him good, but Oscar had already done so. A virtuoso performance can only be produced against a top quality opponent - and the Gatti that PBF fought was not that.

Surely you agree that Floyd's performance and win v Corrales is far better/more impressive??

I would also quibble with your mention of Whitaker-Ramirez II. IMO Whitaker-Haugen, Whitaker-Nelson and Whitaker-Chavez were all, for different reasons, more impressive.

    1. Whittaker because he was dominant against the very best in his division.

    2. Jones never fought the very best in his division

    3. Mayweather's body of work will be more respected as time goes by.

2.Which division are you referring to? Lhw? The only guy he never fought was Michalczewski. Not really of critical importance in determining how great he was, as peak Jones would surely have beaten him. You could think up guys from Sweet Pea's era that he never fought too where the result would have been academic.
3.I disagree. Are the names Corrales, Castillo, Hatton and Judah going to reverberate through history? PBF's resume will not appreciate with time unless Hatton becomes a far better fighter than I believe he will, or PBF comes back and fights better opposition around 147.

Yes, Corrales was better than Gatti, Ive no probs with that one being Floyds best win, he has never looked better than in those 2 fights IMO.

Haugen was on a similar level to Ramirez, I just loved the schooling in that Ramirez fight.
Pea never got his deserved verdict vs Chavez but obviously Nelson was the best performance + quality opponent as Nelson was an ATG fighter, no probs with that fight being Pea`s standout fight.

Fair enough.I was taking his resume into account, but If we are going solely on skills Floyd is still third IMO.
