Joe Frazier .vs. Mike Tyson

Because Douglas and Frazier were so alike in body type, style, tactics, and strengths right.

And what exactly did Foreman find Frazier as? Willie Pep ?

Tyson didn't have better head movement than Frazier. His head movement was different whereas he used his shoulders to dip and slip punches on either side, and used his head like Floyd Patterson, hands up in guard, peak-a-boo style. Frazier rolled out of hooks much better than Tyson landing primarily to both sides of the body. Tyson rarely rolled out of hooks when he used head movement

Frazier, bobbed, weaved, ducked and used the shoulder slip, the latter not as much as Tyson. To say Tyson's head movement was better than Frazier's is inaccurate because Tyson didn't employ as much head movement as Frazier to begin with.

Too many people assume Frazier would just wilt against Tyson in the early rounds like he did against Foreman, when he was far from his best like I said before. Tyson would have a hard time keeping up with the pressure and pace that Frazier would put on him.

Tyson's hands are quicker than Frazier's but his work rate is nowhere near as high. Frazier would make Tyson miss a lot of shots with repeated head movement and land some serious body shots of his own, which many people on this forum forget was one of his bread and butter strategies.

Tyson slows down considerably after the middle rounds and was never conditioned in his career to go more than 12 rounds. Tyson and many other fighters from the post 15 round generation are trained to fight 9 rounds, stretching it to 12. Frazier had arguably the greatest stamina ever for a heavyweight, training for 12 rounds, stretching it 15.

Tyson can take Frazier's shots, Frazier most certainly CANNOT take tyson's shots.

To be honest this is one of those fight that I most certain Mike would crush his opponent. Frazier has nothing that would bother Tyson whatsoever. Literally, I do not see him surviving the the explosiveness and power that tyson had in the 80's. Tyson took shots from some hard hitting fighters and wasn't seem to be budged. He took Lennox lewis's hardest shots and kep moving forward, took ruddock's hardest shots and he did not even seem to be bothered one bit, Took shots from Bonecrusher smith and didn't seemed to be bothered either. Frank Bruno was also a pretty hard puncher. Frazier did not really face that many hard hitting puchers as Tyson did. Though i will admit the man lost to the other all time greats of his generation, He was never owned as bad as Frazier was even after his prime. Frazier looked like a child against Foreman. Marciano stands a better chance than Frazier....

 

Hell i will go out and say it:

"JOE FRAZIER was a great champion but is overrated by many due to the fact he fought in the 70's."

 

I still take Frazier over Tyson.

That was in reference to the quote that Tyson was not easy to hit - it wasn't in regards to Frazier v Tyson but the rest of my post was. Tyson could be hit but fighters never sustained any real pressure on Tyson like Buster Douglas did - others folded easily - Buster was in no way letting Tyson have it all his own way and was giving back as good as he was taking. Frazier would sustain constant pressure for 15 rounds and he would land on Tyson - no doubt about that. Like i say Tyson has to win within 5. If not it's Frazier all the way.

 

Groove hit the proverbiable nail on the head. If Tyson doesn't get Frazier out of there within the first 2 or 3 rounds (And that's a real possibility) then Joe wears down, discourages and stops Mike late. This fight does not see the final bell and I wouldn't place my money on it either.

 

IMO, Tyson may very well be the ATG who reached the most unbeatable status at his peak. Only prime Lennox would have a chance with him.

Frazier would be Koed.

 

I see a fight with Lennow lewis going the way it did with Bonecrusher Smith or Tony Tucker.


But yeah, Frazier dont stand a chance. Foreman beat him till he turned Stupid, Have you heard Frazier talk?
