I agree this is the kind of fight that would be hard to recover from mentally aswell. If you watch him when they are anouncing the fighters he has little nervous idiocyncrosies that look like he is not that mentally strong anyway.
Nervousness can be your best friend, and carry you. Over confidence, lack of fear and disinterest in self-awarenees, can fog your thoughts and mental state. No matter how prepared for the coming fight, these things will create problems early on. Been there, done that. Cheers. Best of luck to Geale. He may learn a lot about his aptitude for further ventures in the game.
There is a difference between being nervous on the inside and using that energy to your best advantage any fighter knows that is what keeps you out of trouble. This was a stay busy fight against a guy that didn't really deserve to be in the ring with a world champion, Geale should of been nervous on the inside because he was about to fight but he should have looked like a confident world champ that was about to destroy the guy across the ring that wasn't really in his league. Against someone like Arthur Abraham he will sniff that fear out and walk straight thru him. I can't help but feel Geale has been taken a back by peoples honest opinion about how he would fair against Choc and is now trying to prove a point. Good on him for stepping up but I don't think he realizes what he is stepping up to.
Am i the only person here glad to see a top aussie fighter taking on the best in the world? Gealy has the boxing skills to make this a competative fight, although i see this as another mosley v shannan taylor kinda fight, a undeafeted aussie stepping it up to take on the best there is. Win or lose, i give Geale respect for wanting to fight the best there is, when he could have taken a mundine style path in boxing and finish his career defending a second tier title to 3rd tier competition. In all honesty, i regard Geals IBO title higher than Mundines once owned "regular/meaningless" WBA title.
Although i agree Abraham will bash Gealey i dont think AA has good skills. There is always that chance that Geale could very well come up with a plan to win.
Not overly impressed by his skills. He can be lumbering with his footwork can get really lazy with his jab and often moves into his opponent without throwing it. To me it looks like someone who is dedicated to jab then move off to the side can cause him some trouble. He throws great combos explosively which often hurts his opponents - that is his main strength, his high guard is what i see as being his undoing against Pavlik. If Pavlik doubles up on his jab and follows through with a right hand i can see him punching right through AA defence and giving him one hell of a time. Geale aint Pavlik and i expect him to get bashed. AA isnt a highly skilled boxer, probably more a boxer/puncher like Mosley.
Look for Geale to get through his next fight (whoever it is) and then fight Soliman in....drum roll please........ Tassy! You heard it right here.
